COMMUTER ACFT FAILS TO HOLD FOR TFC AS INSTRUCTED BY GND.

Narrative

WE LANDED ON RWY 22R AT BOS AND ROLLED TO END AS INSTRUCTED. WE TURNED OFF AT THE TXWY A AND WERE INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT GND CTL. THE CAPT CONTACTED GND WHILE I TURNED OFF MY RADIO IN ORDER TO CONTACT OUR OPS DEP ON COMPANY FREQ (#2 COM). AFTER CALLING OPS; I MADE A BRIEF CABIN ANNOUNCEMENT ADVISING OUR PAX TO REMAIN SEATED. WHEN I RETURNED TO MONITORING COM #1; WE HAD ALREADY RECEIVED OUR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS AND I THEREFORE MISSED THEM. WE WERE TOLD TO TAXI TO OUR GATE VIA TXWY A; AND GIVE WAY TO TFC 'COMING OFF THE GATE.' WE WERE NOT ADVISED WHAT GATE OR WHERE THE TFC WOULD JOIN THE TXWY. OUR TFC WAS A JET COMING OFF THE GATE BEHIND THE FIREHOUSE. AS WE PASSED THE FIREHOUSE; WE INADVERTENTLY TAXIED IN FRONT OF THE JET AND WE DID NOT SEE THEM UNTIL WE WERE IN FRONT OF THEM. IT WAS DARK AND THE JET DIDN'T APPEAR TO HAVE ANY TAXI LIGHTS ON YET. THE JET GAVE WAY TO US AND DIDN'T APPEAR TO REQUIRE HVY BRAKING; NOR DID THEY COME VERY CLOSE TO US. THE CAPT NOTICED THE JET AS WE PASSED AND COMMENTED THAT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HOLD FOR THEM. WE CONTINUED TO THE GATE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I WAS UNAWARE THAT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HOLD FOR TFC AND DID NOT SEE THE TFC UNTIL WE PASSED THEM; AS IT WAS DARK AND THEY WERE HIDDEN BEHIND THE FIREHOUSE. I WAS NOT INFORMED WHEN I RETURNED TO COM #1 THAT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HOLD. ADDITIONALLY; I BELIEVE ATC COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIFIC ABOUT WHERE WE SHOULD GIVE WAY AND WHERE OUR TFC WAS COMING FROM.
