PAX BEHAVIOR INCAPACITATION -- DRUNK.
Narrative
ON FEB/XX/95 AT APPROX PM LCL; DEST: PBI DURING FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR DEP FROM THE GATE 1 OF OUR FLT ATTENDANTS CAME INTO THE COCKPIT DISTRESSED. SHE INFORMED US THAT A DRUNKEN PAX WHO HAD BOARDED THE PLANE WAS NOW SITTING NEAR ANOTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT; AND THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT HAD INFORMED HER THAT THE DRUNKEN PAX WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE ACFT. OUR CAPT IS A VERY DOMINEERING; INSECURE; PWR HUNGRY PLT WHO LACKS ANY TYPE OF CREW RESOURCE MGMNT AND TOOK THIS STATEMENT AS A THREAT TO HIS POS AS A CAPT. RATHER THAN PERSONALLY INTERVENE INTO THE PROB HE INSTRUCTED THE FLT ATTENDANT TO TELL THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT 'THAT THE DRUNK IS GOING ON THE PLANE. HE CAN EITHER STAY OR GO!' PRIOR TO THIS STATEMENT THE CONDITION OF THE DRUNK WAS DETERMINED TO BE STABLE. HE WAS NOT CAUSING PROBS OR ROWDY; HOWEVER; THERE WERE INDICATIONS THAT HE MAY HAVE BEEN INTOXICATED. THIS WAS NOTICED BY THE GATE AGENTS; THE FLT ATTENDANTS AND THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT. THE FLT ATTENDANT LEFT THE COCKPIT TO EXECUTE THE CAPT'S ACTIONS. THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT WAS WEARING 'REGULAR' NON-UNIFORM ATTIRE INFORMS THE CAPT THAT HE HAS A DRUNK ON BOARD AND THAT HE (THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT) WOULD NOT STAY ON AN ACFT THAT FLEW WITH SUCH AN INDIVIDUAL. THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT ALSO EXPLAINED THAT HE WAS A FULL PAYING PAX. OUR CAPT NEVER ONCE MAKING EYE CONTACT; LOOKING OUT THE FRONT WINDOWS; AND STAYING SEATED THE ENTIRE TIME ADAMANTLY TOLD THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT 'THE DRUNK IS STAYING ON BOARD WITH OR WITHOUT YOU.' THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT 'I AM NOT GETTING ON BOARD AN ACFT WITH A DRUNK.' OUR CAPT WITH THUMB POINTING TO CABIN DOOR 'THEN GET OFF MY ACFT.' THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT THEN ASKED FOR OUR CAPT'S NAME; WHICH HE GAVE. THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT THEN EXPLAINED THAT HE WOULD BE WRITING THE FAA REGARDING THIS MATTER; TO WHICH OUR CAPT REPLIED 'WRITE ALL YOU WANT JUST GET OFF MY ACFT.' THE OTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT THEN WALKED OFF THE ACFT. OUR CAPT THEN PROCEEDED TO EXPLAIN TO ME HIS POS; WHICH WAS THAT HE WAS NOT SOME LITTLE COMMUTER CAPT WHO WAS GOING TO BE PUSHED AROUND BY ANOTHER AIRLINE'S CAPT/PAX WHO WANTED TO PLAY CAPT FROM THE CABIN. OUR CAPT MADE IT CLR THAT ANY THREAT TO HIS AUTH WOULD BE QUICKLY AND HARSHLY DEALT WITH AS MADE CLR IN THIS INCIDENT.
