LINED UP TO LAND ON WRONG RWY.
Narrative
WE DEPARTED CVG AT ABOUT XA20 LCL. THE TRIP WAS A CONTINUOUS DUTY WITH A RPT TIME OF BB00; FEB/XX/95. WE HAD FLOWN TO LAN THAT EVENING AND ARRIVED AT ABOUT CC20. WE GOT TO THE HOTEL AT CC45 PLUS OR MINUS; AND LEFT AT DD45. I HAD ABOUT 4 1/2 - 5 HRS OF FITFUL SLEEP. AFTER ARRIVING BACK AT CVG AT ABOUT EE55 WE DID A QUICK TURN; THEN DEPARTED FOR IND. ON DSCNT INTO IND; WE CAME DOWN INTO VFR CONDITIONS ABOUT 7 NM FROM THE ARPT ON A R BASE LEG FOR RWY 5L AND WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH. THE FO WAS FLYING AND WE RAN THE APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS. ABOUT THE TIME WE WERE TURNING FINAL; ANOTHER ACFT RPTED NOT RECEIVING A LOC SIGNAL. (I DIDN'T HEAR WHICH RWY.) WHEN WE WERE ESTABLISHED VISUALLY ON FINAL; THE FO AND I NOTICED THAT OUR LOC AND GS SIGNAL DID NOT AGREE WITH OUR SIGHT PICTURE. I INFORMED TWR OF THE DISCREPANCY. AS WE WERE DSNDING; THE FO SEEMED UNSURE OF OUR PROPER LINE-UP WITH THE CORRECT RWY; BUT I DID NOT REALIZE WE WERE ACTUALLY LINED UP WITH THE UNFINISHED RWY W OF RWY 5L. BECAUSE OF SCATTERED SNOW ON THE UNFINISHED RWY; THE YELLOW X AT THE END WAS NOT APPARENT FROM OUR POS. WE CONTINUED VISUALLY UNTIL ABOUT 500 FT AGL WHEN IND TWR TOLD US TO GAR DUE TO LINE-UP ON WRONG RWY. WE DID; WITH A CLBING 360 DEG TURN; FOLLOWED BY AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG ON RWY 5L. I FEEL THE INCIDENT WAS PARTIALLY CAUSED BY OUR LACK OF REST ON THE SHORT OVERNIGHT IN LAN; THE OTHER PLT DECLARING AN INOP LOC; AND NO MENTION OF THE NEW RWY CONSTRUCTION ON ATIS.
