PUBLISHED VISUAL APCH PROC.

Narrative

DFW APCH WAS VECTORING US FOR A STADIUM VISUAL TO RWY 31R. FIRST CLRED TO DSND TO 4000 FT AND FLY A STATED HDG (WE HAD BEEN ON SCURRY ARR). THEN WE WERE TOLD TO DSND TO 3000 FT AND ASKED IF WE HAD ARPT OR STADIUM IN SIGHT. WE CALLED BOTH INSIGHT AND WE WERE CLRED 'THE STADIUM VISUAL RWY 31R.' AT THIS TIME I DIALED IN 2500 FT ON AUTOPLT AND LEFT 3000 FT AT A 200-300 FPM DSCNT AS TO ARRIVE OVER STADIUM AT 2500 FT AS DEPICTED ON THE APCH. AT THIS TIME WE HAD A TA ON OUR TCASII AND I OBSERVED A TARGET - 700 FT WITH DECREASING SEPARATION. AS WE STARTED TO PULL UP APCH CTLR SAID 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING AT 2500 FT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE AT 3000 FT UNTIL AFTER THE RESTR ON THE STAR.' WE WERE NOW LEVEL AT 3000 FT. WE TOLD HER (OR ASKED) WHAT RESTR? THERE WAS A HESITATION; AND THEN WE ASKED DIDN'T YOU CLR US FOR THE VISUAL? AT THIS POINT WE WERE AT 3000 FT WITH 2500 FT DEPICTED; ON THE STADIUM VISUAL AND WE DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. FINALLY WE WERE RECLRED ON THE VISUAL AND MADE A STEEP APCH TO RWY 31R. AFTER STUDYING ALL CHARTS; WE HAVE YET TO FIGURE OUT WHAT 3000 FT RESTR THE CTLR COULD HAVE BEEN REFERRING TO. BELIEVE THIS TO BE A CTLR ERROR. TCASII WORKED GREAT!
