Narrative
AFTER DEPARTING ABQ FOR OUR 2ND LEG OF THE DAY (FROM JVL; WI) WE WERE ON AN IFR CLRNC TO FLG. CTR HANDED US OFF TO TWR. WE WERE APCHING FROM THE SSE. NORMAL OPS CALLED FOR A R DOWN WIND TO RWY 3. HOWEVER; TWR SAID L DOWNWIND. I ASKED PNF (CHIEF PLT) TO CONFIRM. THEY INDICATED L DOWNWIND. I ASKED IF OVER THE TOP TO ENTER WAS OK. THEY ADVISED YES; RPT L BASE. ON L DOWNWIND; WE OVERHEARD TWR TALKING TO A FLT CHK ACFT. THEY WERE ON BOTH TWR AND GND AS FLT CHK WAS TAXIING OUT. PNF CALLED TWR; SAID WE WERE ON BASE AND COULD CANCEL IFR IF IT WOULD EXPEDITE FOR OTHER ACFT. AT THIS POINT; I WAS CHKING LNDG CHKLIST; CABIN ALT; ETC. CHIEF PLT INDICATED WE WERE CLR TO LAND. I FEEL WE WERE AS WELL. HOWEVER; ONCE ON RWY; TWR SAID WE WERE OVERHEAD. WE ADVISED WE WERE ON RWY AND THOUGHT WE WERE CLRED TO LAND. HE SAID NEGATIVE. WE WERE ON A DROP- OFF; AND DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO CALL TWR. HOWEVER; THEY NEVER ASKED US TO. STILL I THOUGHT WE WERE CLRED TO LAND. SEVERAL FACTORS HERE CAUSED CONFUSION. 1) THE CANCELLATION OF IFR CAUSED DISTR TO TWR CTLR. 2) 1 CTLR IN CAB. 3) PNF CANCELING WITHOUT CONSULTING PF; THUS SHIFTING ON DUTIES IN CABIN; IE; CABIN ALT; ETC. MYSELF FOR NOT LISTENING. WE HAD BEEN ON DUTY ABOUT 12 HRS AND FLOWN ABOUT 7 HRS THUS FAR AT THE TIME.
