Narrative
PRIOR TO RECEIVING AN IFR CLRNC FROM PSP TO ABQ. I STUDIED THE IFR DEP PROC AS PUBLISHED. IT CALLS FOR A R TURN TO THE PSP VOR IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF. I THEN ACCEPTED OUR CLRNC WHICH INCLUDED THE PSP 3 SID. I THEN BRIEFED THE CAPT ON OUR CLRNC AS WELL AS MONITORING THE IFR DEP PROC. SUBSEQUENT REVIEW OF THE SID INDICATED THAT IT REQUIRES MAINTAINING RWY HDG UPON DEP. BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH AREA; BUT WELL AWARE OF LCL HIGH TERRAIN (AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE IFR DEP PROCS INTENT TO ASSURE HIGH TERRAIN AVOIDANCE); I ANNOUNCED MY INTENTION TO MAKE THE TURN AFTER DEP. BEING THE PF I PROCEEDED IN THIS MANNER. AFTER THE TURN WAS COMPLETED WE WERE HANDED OFF TO DEP CTL WITH ADMONITION TO REVIEW THE SID A LITTLE MORE CLOSELY. DURING SUBSEQUENT EXAMINATION OF THE PROCS INVOLVED; IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT WE DID NOT REVIEW THE PROCS CLOSELY ENOUGH; OR DETERMINE EXACTLY WHAT PROCS WERE TO BE FOLLOWED. OUR USUALLY GOOD COCKPIT RESOURCE MGMNT FAILED US THIS TIME. HAVING STUDIED THE IFR DEP PROC PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE SID; AND WITH AWARENESS OF HIGH TERRAIN; I ALLOWED MY MIND SET TO BE HARDENED BEFORE ALLOWING ALL PERTINENT DATA TO PRESENT ITSELF. IMPROPER BRIEFING OF MY CAPT ONLY SERVED TO REINFORCE MY MINDSET.
