WDB PIC LNDG PROC XWIND LNDG. SURFACE WIND CONDITION EXCEEDS LEGAL XWIND LIMITS.

Narrative

WE WERE FLYING NIGHT FREIGHT TO ANC FROM ONT. ON ARR AT ANC; WINDS WERE GUSTING TO 40 KTS FROM THE N - THIS GAVE A LARGE XWIND COMPONENT ON RWY 32 OR RWY 6. WE INITIALLY PLANNED ON RWY 6 AS THE ATIS WINDS WERE 020 DEG AT 35 KTS. TWR THEN RPTED WINDS AT 360 DEG AT 35 KTS - WE OPTED TO GAR AS THE XWIND COMPONENT WAS OUT OF LIMITS FOR LNDG ON RWY 32. WE THEN RECEIVED VECTORS TO FOLLOW ANOTHER AIRPLANE ON A VISUAL TO RWY 6. WE BEGAN OUR VISUAL TO RWY 6 WITH WINDS RPTED AT 020 DEGS AT 35 KTS; JUST AT OUR XWIND LIMIT. WE WERE ON SHORT FINAL AND THE TWR RPTED WINDS AT THRESHOLD OF 010 DEGS AT 35 KTS; MID FIELD WINDS 020 DEGS AT 30 KTS. WE WERE NOW ON SHORT FINAL; I TOLD THE CAPT THAT THE THRESHOLD WINDS JUST RPTED WERE 2 KTS ABOVE OUR MAX XWIND COMPONENT. THE SAID THAT'S OK; WE'RE GOING TO LAND. AFTER A FEW EXCITING SECONDS; WE LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. IN HINDSIGHT; I BELIEVE WE SHOULD HAVE GONE AROUND AND FLOWN TO OUR ALTERNATE OF FAIRBANKS - WINDS CALM (WE HAD NECESSARY FUEL TO DO THIS) I BELIEVE 2 FACTORS CONTRIBUTED: WE WERE FATIGUED AND COMPLACENT AFTER FLYING ALL NIGHT. I DID NOT EXERCISE GOOD COCKPIT RESOURCE MGMNT AND SUGGEST A GAR.
