TKOF ABORTED IN DHC-8. ACFT ENG DAMAGED.
Narrative
IN THE MORNING I CAME OUT TO THE ACFT AND DID MY PREFLT. I NOTICED THE ACFT HAD ALREADY BEEN DEICED AND FOUND NOTHING VISUALLY WRONG WITH THE ACFT. THE GEAR PINS WERE REMOVED AND #1 AND #2 ENG INTAKE PLUGS; FROM MY VIEW; WERE REMOVED. WE DID ALL OF OUR CHKLISTS. THE ENGS WERE RUNNING NORMALLY DURING TAXI. ON THE TKOF THE CAPT ADVANCED THE PWR LEVERS AND THERE WAS A YAW TO THE L. HE BROUGHT THE LEVERS BACK TO ABORT. SIMULTANEOUSLY I NOTICED THE #1 ENG TORQUE DIDN'T COME UP NORMALLY ON #1 AS WELL AS A VERY HIGH RISING ITT TEMP AND ITT OVERTEMP LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. IT WAS DISCOVERED LATER THAT THE #1 ENG INTAKE PLUG WAS INGESTED 3 FT INTO THE #1 ENG. I THINK THAT DURING DEICING THE INTAKE PLUG WAS BLOWN BACK INTO THE INTAKE OF THE ENG; BECAUSE IT WAS NOT IN VISUAL VIEW DURING PREFLT. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN SUPPLIED A LADDER TO LOOK DOWN INSIDE THE INTAKE I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE NOTICED IT LYING DOWN INSIDE OF THE INTAKE. I WOULD GUESS THAT THE ENG'S INTAKE ON A DHC-8 SITS ABOUT 7-8 FT OFF OF THE GND. I AM ABOUT 5 FT 11 INCHES. ALSO; IT IS NOT MY JOB TO CHK IN THE BACK OF THE CARGO DOOR (WHERE PLUGS ARE STORED). I MIGHT HAVE NOTICED ONE OF THE PLUGS MISSING AND QUESTIONED IT.
