RWY INCURSION BY CREW NEW TO THE ARPT.
Narrative
ACFT WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 11L FOR TKOF. WE ENTERED TXWY A AT RAMP AND CONTINUED MERRILY ON OUR WAY. BEING USED TO USING THE LONGEST RWY (NORMALLY); I CONTINUED TO TAXI TO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE END OF RWY 11L. ABOUT THAT TIME; TWR CALLED; ASKED US WHERE WE WERE GOING; AND ADVISED US WE HAD PASSED THE LAST INTERSECTING TXWY AS WELL AS CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY. WE HAD VISUALLY VERIFIED NO XING TFC. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO DO A 180 DEG TURN AND CONTINUED TO RWY 11L FOR TKOF. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: 1) UNFAMILIARITY WITH ARPT. FIRST TRIP; PLUS CREW DEADHEADED IN AS PAX. I CONSIDERED ASKING GND CTL FOR PROGRESSIVE INSTRUCTIONS BUT DIDN'T. 2) HEAD COLD AND EARS POPPING (CAPT). NOT FEELING 100 PERCENT WELL. 3) FLT ALREADY HAD TAKEN 15 MIN DELAY TRYING TO CORRECT OVERWT PROB. WE APOLOGIZED TO TWR. HE SAID NO PROB. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR FLIES THE B-737 FOR A LOW COST ACR THAT IS GIVING THE MAJORS A FIT. NEITHER THE CAPT NOR FO HAD BEEN INTO TUS BEFORE. THE CAPT ASKED THE FO TO ASK FOR PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS AND THEN DID NOT INSIST ON THIS WHEN THE FO DID NOT DO IT. THE CAPT HAD HIS ARPT DIAGRAM IN FRONT OF HIM. THE FO WAS NO HELP IN TAXIING AS MANY PRETKOF DUTIES ARE ACCOMPLISHED WHILE TAXIING. THE TWR WAS NOT UPSET WITH THIS. THE ARPT WAS NOT BUSY. THE RPTR HAS NOT HEARD FROM THE FAA ON THIS MATTER.
