SMA CROSSES HOLD LINE WHILE AWAITING TKOF CLRNC.

Narrative

INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE WAITING IN LINE AMONG SEVERAL HVY JETS ON TXWY C TO TAKE OFF RWY 36R (SIMULTANEOUS TKOFS AND LNDGS WERE BEING CONDUCTED.) UPON REACHING FIRST IN LINE; MY ACFT WAS MOVED FORWARD TO WHAT APPEARED TO BE SAME POS THAT PREVIOUS ACFT WERE HOLDING FOR TKOF. WHILE TAXIING FORWARD AND SEARCHING FOR THE HOLD SHORT LINE; DETERMINED THAT THE LINE MIGHT BE DIFFICULT TO SEE IN THE DARK; OR POSSIBLY HAD NOT BEEN SEEN. SO ACFT WAS STOPPED IMMEDIATELY TO AWAIT FURTHER CLRNC ONTO THE RWY. AT THAT TIME SECOND ACFT IN LINE STATED THAT MY ACFT HAD PASSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. TWR INQUIRED ABOUT MY ACTUAL POS AND ALTHOUGH A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE RWY I COULD NOT POSITIVELY IDENT MY POS WITH RESPECT TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE SO MY RESPONSE WAS THAT I COULD BE PAST IT. GIVEN THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR THE LINE WHILE TAXIING; I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT TO SEE IN THE DARK WITH THE SINGLE NOSE MOUNTED TYPE LAMP ON MY ACFT. IT WAS NOTED THAT SOME OF THE YELLOW TAXI LINES WERE DIFFICULT TO SEE ON THE GRAY CONCRETE; WHILE LINES ON THE BLACK ASPHALT PORTIONS OF THE RAMP WERE MUCH EASIER TO SEE.
