Narrative
SMT X DEPARTED SNA ON RWY 19R. TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF BEHIND A 757. WE HAD ADVISED PRIOR TO CLRNC THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO OFFSET TO THE R TO AVOID WAKE TURB. THAT WAS OK'ED. WE REPEATED OFFSET REQUEST WHEN CLRED FOR TKOF. AFTER TKOF WE DID OFFSET TO THE R; KEEPING THE 757 IN SIGHT; CHKED IN WITH SOCAL DEP HDG 200 DEGS. UPON CHK-IN; ADVISED ATC THAT WE WERE OFFSET TO THE R AND ADVISED OUR HDG DEV FROM THE SID (175 DEGS) BECAUSE OF WAKE TURB AVOIDANCE. THEY POINTED OUT TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK AND 2000 FT. WE CALLED TFC IN SIGHT AND CLBING WELL CLR. WE WERE THEN CLRED OUR DISCRETION TO 175 DEG HDG. WE DID TURN AND CONTINUED THE SID (MUSEL 5). THE NEXT FREQ ASKED US TO CONTACT SOCAL UPON LNDG. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY HAD NEVER BEEN TOLD BY THE TWR OF OUR DEV REQUEST. THEY TOLD US WE SHOULD TRY TO STAY ON THE SID BECAUSE OF LCL TFC EITHER SIDE OF THAT TRACK AND NOISE MONITORING EQUIP AS WELL. THEY RECOMMENDED DECLINING A TKOF CLRNC IN THIS TYPE OF PROB. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS PRACTICAL IN SUCH A BUSY; HIGH DENSITY AIRLINE ENVIRONMENT.
