HDG TRACK DEV DURING IAP ILS APCH.

Narrative

CLRED FOR ILS APCH AND TUNED RADIOS. CLRNC CHANGED TO ILS RWY 27 ON DOWNWIND VECTOR. ACKNOWLEDGED CHANGE AND BRIEFED APCH. HOWEVER; I FAILED TO CHANGE ILS FREQ. CO- CAPT DID NOT NOTICE MY ERROR ON APCH CHK. RECEIVED CLRNC TO INTERCEPT AND EXECUTE ILS RWY 27 APCH. UNFORTUNATELY; INTERCEPTED ILS FOR RWY 26. APCH NOTED ERROR AND RECLRED FOR ILS RWY 26 APCH. FACTORS: CAPT CHKING OUT IN MD-80. POOR WX INCREASED WORKLOAD. INADEQUATE DIVISION OF ATTN BY CAPT (POOR ATTN TO DETAIL). UNWARRANTED ATTN TO COCKPIT TASKS NOT REQUIRED FOR CAPT TO PERFORM (DISTR). SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 301079: THE CAPT WAS ON THE SECOND LEG OF HIS INITIAL IOE TRAINING. THE CAPT BRIEFED AN ILS APCH TO RWY 26 AT IAH. I WAS RUNNING THE APCH CHK WHEN WE WENT THROUGH THE RWY 27 CTRLINE. I DID NOT NOTICE THE OVERSHOOT. DURING THE APCH BRIEF; WE DISCUSSED USING EITHER RWY TO ACCOMMODATE OUR GATE ARR. CREW COORD BROKE DOWN WHEN LOC FREQS WERE NOT XCHKED. THE CAPT WAS TOTALLY FOCUSED TO LAND ON RWY 26 AND NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED RWY 27. I DID NOT XCHK LOC FREQS WHICH WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE PROB. WE DISCUSSED THE OBVIOUS PROB OF BRIEFING AN APCH BEFORE FINAL ASSIGNMENT AND THE COORD REQUIRED WHEN A CHANGE OCCURS FROM PLAN. BETTER CREW COORD WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THEIR PROB.
