Narrative
AS THE PLT OF CESSNA; I CALLED FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WITH THE ATIS AND IFR CLRNC TO MGM. THE GND CTLR CLRED ME TO THE 'N' INTXN OF RWY 18 TO HOLD SHORT OF THE RWY FOR AN INTXN DEP. ON TAXIING TO 'N' INTXN; I NOTED THAT THE WIND SEEMED TO FAVOR RWY 23 WHICH WOULD HAVE THE FULL LENGTH AVAILABLE. AT THE 'N' INTXN HOLDING POINT; I CALLED THE TWR AND REQUESTED RWY 23 FOR TKOF (THE RWY 23 THRESHOLD IS ONLY A SHORT DISTANCE W OF THE RWY 18 'N' INTXN). THE TWR CTLR TOLD ME TO 'TAXI RWY 23 TO HOLD ON THE NUMBERS.' I PROCEEDED TO THE RWY 23 THRESHOLD AND TAXIED ONTO THE NUMBERS AND STOPPED IN POS. I DID NOT OBSERVE ANY INBOUND TFC. WHEN I STOPPED I HEARD AN ACFT SAY THAT A PLANE WAS ON THE RWY. A 400 SERIES CESSNA FLEW OVER US DOWN THE RWY AT A SAFE ALT AND THE CTLR CLRED HIM TO LAND AS AMPLE RWY WAS AVAILABLE; WHICH HE PROCEEDED TO DO. THE CTLR ASKED ME WHY I WAS ON THE RWY AND I REPLIED THAT I WAS THERE IN ACCORDANCE WITH HIS INSTRUCTIONS WHICH HE COULD CHK BY PLAYING HIS TAPE BACK. THE CTLR SUGGESTED THAT HE AND I WERE BOTH SOMEWHAT AT FAULT AND CLRED ME FOR TKOF. I TOLD HIM I WAS SORRY IF I HAD CAUSED HIM ANY TROUBLE. HE DID NOT TELL ME TO CALL ANYONE SO AS FAR AS I KNOW; THIS IS THE END OF THE INCIDENT. MY PAX; A NON PLT PHYSICIAN; WAS LISTENING TO THE RADIO USING A HEADSET (AS I WAS) AND VERIFIED THAT THE CTLR'S LANGUAGE WAS AS I HAVE DESCRIBED. I REALIZE NOW THAT I SHOULD HAVE QUESTIONED HIS NONSTANDARD PHRASEOLOGY.
