DURING A FAA LINE CHK; A FLC CONFIGURED FLAPS AT INCORRECT SETTING.

Narrative

ESTABLISHED ON FINAL APCH. CREW BRIEF HAD BEEN PERFORMED. THE BRIEF INCLUDED A FLAPS 20 DEGS (INTERMEDIATE) SETTING. THE FLAP OVERRIDE; WHICH PRECLUDES A GPWS 'TOO LOW/FLAPS' WARNING IS SET TO NORMAL (DURING A FLAPS 20 DEG LNDG); WAS CORRECTLY SET TO 'OVERRIDE.' THE TEMP HAD RISEN RAPIDLY DURING THE PAST 2 HRS AND SOME THERMAL ACTIVITY WAS CONTRIBUTING TO THE ALREADY UNSTABLE/GUSTY CONDITIONS. CONCENTRATING ON GLIDE PATH AND AIRSPD AND DSCNT DURING THESE UNSTABLE CONDITIONS CAUSED A CONDITIONED RESPONSE WHEN 1000 FT CALL WAS MADE. I SAID 'FLAPS 35.' THIS IS WHERE FLAPS ARE SET 35 DEGS. EVEN THOUGH I BRIEFED 20 DEG LNDG; I AUTOMATICALLY REACTED TO THE 1000 FT CALL. THE FLAPS WERE SET TO 35 DEGS AT THIS TIME. THE CREW IMMEDIATELY CAUGHT THE ERROR. WE ELECTED TO LEAVE ACFT CONFIGURED (FLAPS 35 DEGS) AND CONTINUE. WE RE-SET THE OVERRIDE TO NORMAL. IF WE HAD NOT; WE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO RECEIVE FLAPS 70 DEGS (LIFT DUMP) AFTER LNDG AND AFTER OTHER CONDITIONS WERE MET. LIFT DUMP WAS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE LNDG. THE TURBULENT WX AND THE FACT THAT NERVES WERE TIGHT BECAUSE OF THE FAA ASI OP THAT WAS PLUGGED IN FOR A LINE-CHK CONTRIBUTED TO THE 'ABNORMAL' CALL AND EFFECT ON FINAL. A CONDITIONED RESPONSE OCCURRED WHEN CHALLENGED/CALLED. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. (NORMAL).
