Narrative
AFTER LNDG ON RWY 30L AT CPS; TWR INSTRUCTED US TO TURN R ON TXWY E AND CONTACT GND. AFTER TURNING ONTO TXWY E; SLOWLY PROCEEDED N AND CALLED GND AFTER GND HAD ENDED A XMISSION TO ANOTHER ACFT. WE WERE S OF INTXN OF TXWYS D AND E WHEN GND RESPONDED TO MOVE TO THE R TO LET AN ACFT THAT WAS ON TXWY A; W OF TXWY D TO PASS TO OUR L. GND ALSO FOUND FAULT WITH US THAT WE WERE MOVING UP TXWY E BEFORE TALKING TO THEM. WE HELD SHORT OF TXWY D AND LET OTHER ACFT PASS OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO OUR L. NO CONFLICTS WERE CREATED BY OUR SLOW TAXI WHILE CONTACTING GND. AFTER DISCUSSING THE SIT WITH GND ON OUR WAY BACK OUT; THEY SUGGESTED THAT WE STOP AFTER CLRING THE RWY ON THE ASSIGNED TXWY UNTIL GND INSTRUCTS US TO PROCEED PAST THAT POINT. IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE AT MOST TWR ARPTS THAT TWR WILL GIVE YOU HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS WHEN CLRING A RWY IF ONCOMING TFC WILL BE A POSSIBLE CONFLICT. I MAY NEED TO CHANGE MY TAXI TECHNIQUE TO STOP AFTER CLRING A RWY UNTIL GND IS CONTACTED. IN THE PAST; IF NO ACFT ARE OBSERVED TO BE APCHING ME; I USUALLY ROLL SLOWLY WHILE CONTACTING GND UNLESS AN INTXN IS AHEAD -- THEN I WOULD HOLD SHORT OF THAT RWY OR TXWY INTXN UNTIL CONTACT IS MADE WITH GND.
