SEASONED ACR PIC ADMITS TO A RPTR INDUCED ERROR OF A HDG TRACK DEV DURING THE LAX 2 DEP SID PROC AT LAX.
Narrative
THE 'LAX 2' DEP STATES IF DEPARTING RWY 24L OR RWY 24R TO FLY HDG 250 DEGS AND MAINTAIN 2000 FT. FLT TOOK OFF ON ASSIGNED RWY 24L LAX. AFTER TKOF AND DEP CHK-IN; WE WERE GIVEN 3000 FT AND TFC TO OUR 1 O'CLOCK POS AT 1500 FT. THE CAPT WAS FLYING; I WAS THE FO. AFTER LOOKING FOR TFC I OBSERVED WE WERE TURNING L; I TOLD THE CAPT THE (SID) REQUIRED HDG (250 DEGS). HE MISREAD 220 DEG HDG FOR RWY 25L NOT (24L) OUR RWY: SO WE TURNED BACK TOWARDS HDG OF 250 DEGS. BY THIS TIME DEP CTL QUESTIONED OUR TURN. WE EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. THE CAPT WAS APPRECIATIVE OF MYSELF BEING HEADS UP AND CATCHING HIS MISTAKE. HE ADMITTED HE JUST MISREAD THE SID. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 303647:I TURNED TO HDG 220 DEGS PRESCRIBED FOR RWY 25. I HAVE NO EXPLANATION FOR MY ACTION OTHER THAN WE LANDED ON RWY 25 AND MY MIND WAS ON RWY 25 MAYBE. THE FO CAUGHT MY TURN BACK TO FL250; BUT THE CTLR TOLD US TO TURN L 190 DEGS WHICH I DID; BEFORE HE CHANGED US TO THE NEXT FREQ. HE TOLD US THAT WE SHOULD HAVE MAINTAINED HDG 250 DEGS; WHICH WE ACKNOWLEDGED. I REALLY HAVE NO EXPLANATION OTHER THAN A BRAIN-FART. I HAVE OVER 16000 HRS AND THIS IS THE FIRST AND I HOPE THE LAST TIME I MAKE THIS TYPE OF ERROR.
