FLC OF AN LTT TUNED TO THE WRONG ADF FREQ RESULTING IN INTERVENTION BY ATC TO DIRECT THEM TO THE ASSIGNED RADIO BEACON FOR APCH.
Narrative
WE WERE INBOUND TO NASHVILLE ON THE GRAHAM 3 ARR. APPROX 20 MI SW OF BNA; APCH CTL GAVE US A HDG OF 080 DEGS. WE WERE THEN CLRED DIRECT TO DOBBS (BN 304); THE OM FOR RWY 2L AT BNA. AS PNF; I WAS BUSY COMPLETING REQUIRED DUTIES WHILE THE FO WAS FLYING THE ACFT. I SAW THE FO MOVE HIS HAND TO THE FREQ SELECTOR FOR THE ADF; BUT DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT AT THE TIME. ABOUT A MIN LATER AFTER COMPLETING MY REQUIRED DUTIES; I CHKED THE FREQ IN THE ADF AS A DOUBLE CHK; BECAUSE I REMEMBERED HAVING SET UP 304 FOR DOBBS EARLIER IN THE DSCNT. I THEN DISCOVERED THE FO HAD SELECTED OPERY (VI 344) ON THE ADF; AND THAT WE WERE PROCEEDING DIRECT TO OPERY; WHICH IS N OF THE ARPT ON THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION APCH TO RWY 20R AT BNA. AS WE WERE MAKING A TURN FROM OUR 030 DEG HDG TO A 090 DEG HDG TO CORRECT; APCH ASSIGNED US A 090 DEG HDG. APCH SAID NOTHING ELSE. THE FO ADMITTED SELECTING THE WRONG FREQ FROM THE WRONG CHART. HERE ARE 2 ILS'S; OPPOSITE DIRECTION; WITH THE #2 IN THE RWY DESIGNATOR. ALSO THE ADF FREQS ARE SIMILAR -- 304 AND 344. I BELIEVE THIS DEV OCCURRED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASON. THE FO HAS BEEN IN THE R SEAT A LONG TIME; WITH LOW PAY AS WITH MOST REGIONAL AIRLINES; AND HAD ADMITTED TO BEING BORED; BURNED OUT; AND READY TO DO SOMETHING ELSE. (GET OUT OF AVIATION) I BELIEVE THIS HAS LED TO COMPLACENCY ON HIS PART. THIS COMPLACENCY ON HIS PART; COMBINED WITH MY INATTN TO WHERE WE WERE GOING BECAUSE OF MY NON-FLYING DUTIES; GOT US HEADED IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. I HAVE BECOME A BIT COMPLACENT ALSO; IN THAT I COULD HAVE PERFORMED THOSE NON-FLYING DUTIES EARLIER IN THE APCH; ALLOWING ME TO BE MORE 'PLUGGED IN' AS WE GOT CLOSE TO THE ARPT. THIS WAS A FAMILIAR APCH; (SO WE THOUGHT) IN DSCNT WX; WITH LOW TFC. I'LL PAY MORE ATTN FROM NOW; AS COMPLACENCY SNUCK UP ON ME WHILE KNOWING HOW MY FO FELT.
