FROM FL220; CTR ISSUED US CLRNC TO CROSS MAJIC INTXN (CLT 039 DEG RADIAL; 40 DME) AT 11000 FT AND 250 KTS. CAPT FLYING; I WORKED RADIOS. CAPT BEGAN DSCNT AS SOON AS WE GOT CLRNC. DURING DSCNT WE WERE TOLD TO SLOW TO 250 KIAS. CAPT SLOWED TO 250 KTS AND CONTINUED DSCNT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE CAPT WAS THINKING; BUT I SURE WASN'T WATCHING HIS PROFILE CLOSELY ENOUGH. AT 47 DME; CTLR ASKED US TO VERIFY WE WERE AT 250 KIAS. I ANSWERED AFFIRMATIVE. HE THEN ASKED IF WE WOULD MAKE MAJIC INTXN AT 11000 FT. AS I GLANCED DOWN AND NOTED 46.5 DME AND 16500 FT; OOPS! I TOLD HIM I DIDN'T THINK WE COULD MAKE IT AND ASKED IF HE WOULD LIKE FOR US TO MAKE A 360 DEG TURN. HE ASKED WHAT KIND OF RATE OF DSCNT WE COULD DO AND I TOLD HIM ABOUT 4000 FPM. HE SAID THAT WOULD BE OK. WE ACTUALLY WERE ABLE TO DO ABOUT 5000-5500 FPM DSCNT AT 250 KTS WITH SPD BRAKE OUT. AS IT TURNED OUT; WE MADE THE XING RESTR AT 11000 FT; 250 KTS WITH 0.2 DME TO SPARE! BIG THANKS TO THE ZTL CTLR FOR PROVIDING A WAKE-UP CALL. A LITTLE MORE AWARENESS ON MY PART CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE HELPED.
