PLT EXPERIENCES REPEATED ELECTRICAL PROBS DURING FLT.

Narrative

JUN/XE/95; ENRTE TO REDDING ARPT FROM SUN RIVER; OREGON; I EXPERIENCED AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE TO THE SYS OF MY GRUMMAN TIGER. I LANDED AT REDDING AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPAIRED; THE BATTERY CHARGED AND A MAINT RELEASE WAS ISSUED BY MAINT. THE FOLLOWING MORNING I PROCEEDED ON COURSE TO REEDLEY ARPT. HOWEVER; I AGAIN EXPERIENCED AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE; AND I LANDED AT VISALIA MUNICIPAL ARPT FOR REPAIRS. THE BATTERY WAS CHKED; AN ATTEMPT TO CHARGE IT WAS MADE; AND THE BATTERY WAS THEN REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. THE SYS WAS CHKED; THE ACFT ELECTRICAL SYS WAS RUN; AND I PROCEEDED ON COURSE TO MY FINAL DST OF TORRANCE ARPT. ENRTE; NOT KNOWING IF THE SYS HAD BEEN REPAIRED COMPLETELY; I USED THE RADIO AND XPONDER ONLY WHEN NECESSARY. PRIOR TO ENTERING THE LOS ANGELES AREA; I MONITORED THE ATIS AT VAN NUYS FOR AN ALTIMETER SETTING AND DSNDED DOWN TO 4900 FT FROM 7500 FT TO BE UNDER THE LOS ANGELES CLASS B AIRSPACE OF 5000 FT AND OVER THE CLASS C AIRSPACE OF BURBANK OF 4800 FT. I TURNED MY XPONDER TO STANDBY TO WARM UP AND THEN SWITCHED IT TO THE ALT SETTING. AS I WAS LEAVING THE BURBANK CLASS C AIRSPACE; AND PRIOR TO DSNDING TO 3500 FT FOR THE LA SPECIAL FLT RULES AREA; I OBSERVED A LARGE COMMERCIAL ACFT IN FRONT OF ME; CLBING NWBOUND. I BELIEVE IT WAS APPROX 500 FT ABOVE ME. I GLANCED AT MY ALTIMETER SETTING; WHICH WAS 4900 FT; AND CONTINUED ON COURSE; DSNDING TO 3500 FT. I CHANGED MY XPONDER TO VFR AND XMITTED MY POS THROUGH THE LA SPECIAL FLT RULES AREA. WHILE TRANSITING THE AREA; SOMEONE KEPT ASKING ME WHAT MY N NUMBER WAS BY REFERRING TO THE MAKE OF MY ACFT. UPON RESPONDING; I RECEIVED NO REPLY. PERHAPS IT WAS LAX; I DON'T KNOW. I KNOW I WAS AT THE CORRECT ALT AND LOCATIONS AT ALL TIMES. UPON EXITING THE AREA; I DSNDED TO TORRANCE VFR; CAUTIONING THEM THAT I HAD EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBS ENRTE. I SQUAWKED IDENT AT THEIR REQUEST AND TURNED OFF EVERYTHING ELSE; EXCEPT 1 RADIO. I WAS CLRED TO LAND WITHOUT ADDITIONAL PROBS. A PRIOR RPT WAS MADE ON JUN/XA/95 RELATING TO AN ELECTRICAL PROB UPON LEAVING THE TORRANCE AREA NWBOUND. THE ACFT WAS REPAIRED PRIOR TO CONTINUING TO SUN RIVER; OREGON. A COMPLETE CHK OF MY ACFT PRIOR TO LEAVING TORRANCE ON JUN/XA/95 WAS MADE; AND THE ENTIRE SYS WAS RECHKED AFTER RETURNING.
