ACFT EQUIP PROB R HYD SYS FAILURE; A BROKEN LINE AND CLOGGED FILTER.

Narrative

THE PURPOSE OF THIS FLT WAS TO FERRY FROM GSO TO EWR. THE MD80 ACFT HAD DIVERTED INTO GSO THE PREVIOUS DAY BECAUSE OF A R HYD SYS FAILURE. REPAIRS WERE MADE AT GSO AND THE ACFT WAS RETURNED TO SVC. AFTER BOTH ENGS WERE STARTED; IT WAS NOTED THAT THE OUTPUT PRESSURE OF THE R ENG DRIVEN HYD PUMP WAS BELOW LIMITS IN BOTH THE HIGH PRESSURE AND LOW PRESSURE MODES. THE ACFT WAS SHUT DOWN FOR FURTHER MAINT ACTION. MAINT MADE THE DETERMINATION OF PUMP FAILURE DUE TO LOW HYD QUANTITY DURING THE PREVIOUS SYS FAILURE. MAINT CTL INSTRUCTED LCL MAINT TO MEL THE R ENG DRIVEN PUMP. THE R HYD SYS WAS CHKED FOR LEAKS. A NORMAL TAXI AND TKOF WERE ACCOMPLISHED. CLBING THROUGH 8000 FT MSL; THE R SYS HYD QUANTITY AND PRESSURE FELL RAPIDLY TO '0.' A RETURN TO GSO WAS COORDINATED WITH ATC. BECAUSE OF '0' PRESSURE IN THE R SYS; A MANUAL GEAR EXTENSION WAS NECESSARY. ALSO; WITH NO R HYD PRESSURE; THE MAIN GEAR DOORS REMAINED OPEN WHICH REQUIRED A COMPLETE STOP ON THE RWY AFTER THE LNDG. THE EMER EQUIP WAS REQUESTED. THE ACFT WAS STOPPED ON THE RWY WHILE MAINT SECURED THE GEAR AND MAIN GEAR DOORS. AFTER FURTHER MAINT; A RUPTURED HYD LINE WAS DISCOVERED AND ALSO A FILTER TO THE R PUMP WAS IN BYPASS POS. IT APPEARS THAT AFTER REPAIRS WERE MADE THAT THE ACFT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECHKED FOR PROPER OP.
