C172 ISSUED GAR AFTER POOR ATC SEQUENCING.
Narrative
I WAS NOT QUITE ABEAM THE LNDG RWY 27R WHEN THE TWR CTLR ASKED ME TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE TURN TO BASE AND TO HURRY MY APCH TO LNDG BECAUSE A LEAR JET WAS 5 MI OUT ON FINAL FOR THE SAME RWY (27R). I HESITATED BECAUSE I ONLY HAD A FEW HOURS IN THIS ACFT AND I WASN'T SURE I COULD SAFELY MAKE THE APCH. THE TWR REPEATED THE INSTRUCTION; LOUDER THIS TIME AND I TURNED BASE. I PULLED OFF ALL MY PWR AND DOVE FOR THE RWY. AT THIS POINT THE VERY AGITATED CTLR TOLD ME TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE 270 DEG TO THE L AND A BONANZA BEHIND ME TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE 360 DEG. THE TWR CTLR THEN BARKED; 'ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOUR RADIO?' AFTER THE LEAR LANDED; I DID; AND JUST AFTER TOUCHDOWN; THE TWR CTLR SAID; 'I CALLED YOU TWICE; 3 TIMES IN A ROW.' I SAID I WAS SORRY; I DIDN'T HEAR THE OTHER CALLS HE SAID HE MADE. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN AVOIDED BY MY ASKING FOR AN EXTENDED DOWNWIND TO LAND BEHIND THE RAPIDLY APCHING LEAR; BUT I WAS COWED BY THE CTLR'S TONE OF IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED. I WON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE AGAIN. IF I'M IN DOUBT AS TO MY ABILITY TO COMPLETE AN INSTRUCTION; I'LL USE MY PIC AUTHORITY.
