INSTRUCTED TO HOLD AT GARDNER AS PUBLISHED ON THE GARDNER 2 ARR AT BOSTON. GIVEN AN EFC TIME OF PM11. ENTERED HOLDING AND TURNED OUTBOUND. ROLLING OUT OF TURN; OUTBOUND; INSTRUCTED TO 'PROCEED DIRECT GARDNER; GARDNER 2 ARR; CROSS BRONC AT 11000 FT AND 250 KTS' (WE HAD ENTERED HOLDING AT FL230). WITHIN ABOUT 2 MINS CAPT ASKED FO TO GET LOWER ALT; FO STATED 'WE'VE BEEN CLRED TO 11000 FT AND 250 KTS AT BRONC.' WE DEPARTED FL230 FOR 11000 FT. CTR ASKED IF WE WOULD MAKE BRONC AT 11000 FT. CAPT SAID WE WOULD NOT MAKE 11000 FT AT BRONC. FO QUESTIONED ATC AND ATC SAID WE COULD DISREGARD SPD BUT MAKE ALT AT BRONC. WE PASSED BRONC AT 14000 FT AND WERE SWITCHED TO APCH CTL. FACTORS: FLT ATTENDANT IN COCKPIT; ENTERING HOLDING; GETTING AN UPDATE ON ARR TIME. THIS DISRUPTED COM BTWN FO; ATC AND CAPT FOR BRONC XING INSTRUCTIONS. GIVEN QUICK TURN BACK TO GARDNER AFTER ROLLING WINGS LEVEL OUTBOUND IN HOLDING. EVEN IF A NORMAL DSCNT WAS STARTED IMMEDIATELY; IT WAS CLOSE AND A SHORT DISTANCE TO MAKE REQUIRED DSCNT. EFC TIME WAS PM11. WE GOT CLRED FOR GARDNER AND GARDNER 2 ARR WITH XING RESTR AT APPROX 16 MINS PRIOR; IMMEDIATELY AFTER ENTERING HOLDING AND ROLLING WINGS LEVEL OUTBOUND. OVERALL: QUICK DSCNT AND ARR CLRNC GIVEN. FLT ATTENDANT INTERRUPTION. SLOW AND LACK OF COM.
