AN SMA HIT POWER LINES.

Narrative

WHILE PRACTICING SIMULATED EMER LNDGS IN A RURAL AREA RECENTLY; MY ACFT COLLIDED WITH SOMETHING AT THE APCH END OF MY TARGET AIRFIELD. I WAS FLYING SOLO. I'VE FORGOTTEN WHAT THE IMPACT SOUNDED LIKE; AND MY ACFT DIDN'T SHUDDER UPON IMPACT. I WAS STARTLED; AND MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT MY LNDG GEAR HIT A TELEPHONE WIRE. I DIDN'T NOTICE ANY REDUCTION IN ACFT PERFORMANCE. AFTER MY RETURN TO MY HOME ARPT; I SCRUTINIZED MY ACFT FOR SIGNS OF DAMAGE. I NOTICED THAT MY PROP SPINNER HAD BEEN DAMAGED AND THAT THE REAR OF MY PROP BLADES HAD BEEN ROUGHLY SCUFFED. I'LL ALWAYS WONDER HOW CLOSE I CAME TO BECOMING DECAPITATED. ALTHOUGH I'VE READ IN THE PAST ABOUT THE NEED FOR CAUTION BECAUSE OF THE PROX OF UTILITY LINES THAT SOMETIMES ARE ADJACENT TO THE PERIMETER OF AGRICULTURAL FIELDS; SOMEHOW IN MY HASTE TO PREPARE FOR AN UPCOMING FLT REVIEW; I'D OVERLOOKED A NEEDED CAUTION. I WAS MAKING AN EFFORT NOT TO WASTE ANY OF THE FIELD LENGTH. I HAVEN'T BEEN TELEPHONED BY A UTILITY COMPANY OR AN IRATE FARMER SINCE THE ABOVE INCIDENT. MY ACFT 'N' NUMBER CAN BE EASILY READ; AND MY NUMBERS ARE LARGE. I FLY A BEECH SPORT. THIS WASN'T A MALICIOUS ACT ON MY PART; AND I'M SORRY ALL THIS HAPPENED.
