AN ACR ACFT WAS FLOWN ON A FERRY FLT; WITH A PROPER PERMIT; USING A REVENUE FLT CALL SIGN.
Narrative
UPON RPTING FOR DUTY THE MORNING OF AUG/TUE/95 FOR FLT X FROM ASHVILLE TO NASHVILLE; IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A HINGE WAS BROKEN ON THE NOSEWHEEL SPADE DOOR. MAINT WAS NOTIFIED AND REMOVED THE SPADE DOOR; AND SIGNED THE LOGBOOK OFF AS OK FOR A FERRY FLT FROM AVL TO BNA. A FERRY PERMIT WAS SENT VIA THE COMPANY COMPUTER TO THE STATION. THE CAPT AND I REVIEWED THE PERMIT FOR ITS LIMITATIONS AND CONSULTED OUR FLT MANUAL PART 1. WE DETERMINED THE FLT WOULD BE OPERATED UNDER SECTION 12 PARAGRAPH 12 -- SPECIAL FERRIES AND SECTION 12 PARAGRAPH 11 -- FERRY FLTS; SPECIAL FLT PERMIT WITH CONTINUING AUTH TO CONDUCT FERRY FLTS. WE RECEIVED THESE REQUIREMENTS AND WERE ASSURED THAT THEY WERE MET. OUR IFR CLRNC FOR FLT X WAS STILL ACTIVE; SO WE ELECTED TO DEPART UNDER THAT CALL SIGN. WHILE WE WERE AIRBORNE; DISPATCH INFORMED US THAT A NEW RELEASE FOR Y WAS SENT AND WE SHOULD HAVE USED THAT CALL SIGN. I WAS LATER DEBRIEFED UPON ARR IN NASHVILLE; THAT X WAS A REVENUE FLT NUMBER AND WE SHOULD NOT HAVE USED THAT. THE FLT MANUAL PART 1 DESCRIBING THE RULES AND PROCS; NEVER STATES THAT THE FLC NEEDS A NEW RELEASE WITH A NEW FLT NUMBER; DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FLT NUMBER. I FEEL THE FLT MANUAL SHOULD BE REVISED TO SPECIFICALLY STATE THAT A NEW RELEASE WITH A NEW FLT NUMBER IS REQUIRED FOR FERRY FLTS. THIS CHANGE WOULD GIVE THE CREW THE INFO NEEDED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE.
