Narrative
APPROX 110 DME FROM MRB LEVEL AT FL330 WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS 65 W OF MRB AT FL250. I ACKNOWLEDGED CLRNC WITH ATC; SET 250 IN ALT WARNING INDICATOR; POINTED TO IT AND REPEATED IT TO FO (PF); THEN WROTE IT DOWN. FO BEGAN DSCNT AND I RPTED OUT OF FL330. SHORTLY AFTER THIS I LEFT FREQ TO OBTAIN ATIS; CALL COMPANY AND GIVE PA. WHILE ATTEMPTING COMPANY CONTACT I NOTICED DME AT 68 FROM MRB AND OUR ALT AT FL283. I IMMEDIATELY ASKED FO IF OUR RESTRICTION HAD BEEN CHANGED OR CANCELLED. HE SAID NO; SO I ASKED HIM ABOUT OUR 65 DME XING. HE RESPONDED; 'OH I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS 55 DME.' I INSTRUCTED HIM TO SET UP MAX DSCNT RATE. WE CROSSED 65 DME AT FL259 AND LEVELED AT 61 DME. THE CTLR NEVER COMMENTED; BUT AS WERE WERE LEVELING OFF HE CLRED US IN WHAT I PERCEIVED AS A SOMEWHAT HESITANT VOICE TO CROSS MUMSY AT 15000 FT. FLT CONTINUED NORMALLY. I SPOKE WITH MY FO AND SUGGESTED IF HE WASN'T SURE OF RESTRICTION HE SHOULD HAVE ASKED ATC; OR ME. IN RETROSPECT I SHOULD HAVE OBSERVED MY FO MORE CLOSELY WHEN HE WAS FLYING; AS I HAD WORKED WITH HIM ON A PRIOR OCCASION DURING WHICH HE DEMONSTRATED VERY POOR COCKPIT AND CHKLIST DISCIPLINE. I ATTRIBUTE THIS PARTIALLY TO HIS BEING DUAL QUALIFIED; AND PARTIALLY TO COCKPIT COMPLACENCY ON HIS PART.
