ACR X ENG FIRE RETURNED TO LAND.
Narrative
ACR X DEPARTED CHICAGO O'HARE ENRTE TO LANSING; MI; WITH 14 PAX AND A CREW OF 4. ABOUT 10 MINS AFTER TKOF CLBING THROUGH 7500 FT MSL; THE #1 ENG FIRE WARNING ILLUMINATED AND BELL SOUNDED OFF. THE #1 ENG WAS SHUT DOWN AND AFTER 10 SECONDS THE #1 FIRE BOTTLE WAS DISCHARGED. THE FIRE INDICATION WAS EXTINGUISHED. THE FLT ATTENDANTS WERE NOTIFIED OF THE SIT AND THAT WE WOULD BE RETURNING TO ORD; AND TO PREPARE THE CABIN AS NECESSARY. I ASKED A FLT ATTENDANT TO INSPECT THE ENG COWLING AREA FOR ANY FIRE OR SMOKE; AND AFTER A FEW MINS SHE RPTED TO ME THAT THERE WAS NO ADDITIONAL FIRE OR SMOKE. ALL CHKLISTS WERE COMPLETED; AND THE APCH TO RWY 27L WAS NORMAL EXCEPT ORD TWR ROLLED A DC10; WHILE WE WERE ON A 5 MI FINAL FOR THAT RWY. THIS MADE THINGS VERY TENSE FOR US AS NOW WE WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH WAKE TURB ON A SINGLE ENG LNDG. IF ANYTHING WENT WRONG WE WOULD HAVE TO DO A SINGLE ENG GAR! THE ROLLOUT WAS NORMAL; EXITED RWY 27L; AND TURNED ONTO TXWY M; FACING E; JUST SHORT OF TXWY M2. THE ACFT WAS SHUT DOWN; PAX AND CREW WERE BUSED TO TERMINAL. ACFT WAS GIVEN TO MAINT AFTER THE REQUIRED WRITE-UPS WERE MADE AND AN INSPECTION OF THE ENG BY CFR.
