FLC EXPERIENCED AN AUTOPLT PITCH UP AND STICK SHAKER.
Narrative
AUTOPLT ATTEMPTED AN UNCOMMANDED NOSE UP AT 7000 FT MSL APPROX 10 DME NE OF DFW ON MODIFIED BASE IN 250 DEG TURN. APPROX 210 KTS IDLE PWR DSCNT CTL COLUMN MOVED RAPIDLY BACK WITHIN 1 TO 3 INCHES BACK OF FULL AFT. THE COLUMN CAME BACK SO FAST STICK SHAKER ACTIVATED AND THE ACFT SHUDDERED APPROX 1 SECOND BEFORE THE CAPT AND MYSELF SIMULTANEOUSLY DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND PUSHED FROM APPROX 20 DEG NOSE UP. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR SAID THE CAUSE OF THE AUTOPLT TO PITCH UP WAS A SHORT IN THE WIRING TO A 'FLAP LOGIC' THAT OCCURS WHEN THE FLAPS ARE MOVED TO THE FLAPS 1 POS. WHEN THE FLAPS WERE PUT IN THE #1 POS; THE NOSE PITCHED UP TO ABOUT 20 DEGS SO ABRUPTLY THAT THE STICK SHAKER ACTUATED. BOTH PLTS GRABBED THE WHEEL SIMULTANEOUSLY; DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT; AND PUSHED. THERE WAS A LITTLE LESS THAN THE NORMAL 1 POSITIVE G BUT NO NEGATIVE G'S AS THEY PUSHED. THEY ALSO HAD A LITTLE BANK WHICH THEY ROLLED OUT OF AS THEY WERE IN A L TURN. THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THROTTLE POS. HE SAID THAT HE LEARNED ABOUT THE 'FLAP LOGIC' WIRE BEING 'FRAYED' FROM A CONFERENCE CALL THAT OCCURRED WITH THE NTSB; NASA; FAA; COMPANY AND UNION.
