CAPT OF AN MLG WAS BROUGHT IN HIGH DURING INTERCEPTION FOR AN ILS APCH RESULTING IN A MISSED APCH.
Narrative
ACFT WAS IN VMC AND BEING VECTORED FOR AN ILS APCH TO RWY 25L AT LAX BY SOCAL APCH. THE CAPT WAS FLYING THE ACFT AND THE AUTOPLT WAS ENGAGED. ACFT WAS DSNDING THROUGH 4000 FT MSL AND WAS CLRED TO 2000 FT WHILE ON AN INTERCEPT HDG TO TRACK THE LOC INBOUND. INTERCEPT VECTOR POSITIONED THE ACFT CLOSE TO THE OM (LIMMA). THE FO ADVISED THE CAPT THAT HE WAS BEING BROUGHT IN HIGH FOR THE APCH AS THE GS HAD NOT BEEN INTERCEPTED YET (FULL SCALE DEFLECTION). THE AIR TFC CTLR ASSIGNED THE CREW TO LEVEL AND INTERCEPT AT 3000 FT. FO (PNF) RESET THE ALT WINDOW TO 3000 FT ON MODE CTL PANEL. ACFT LEVELED OFF AT 3000 FT. THE CAPT ASKED THE FO TO VERIFY THE ALT (3000 FT). FO VERIFIED 3000 FT ASSIGNED ALT WITH THE CTLR. THE CTLR CAME BACK AND CHANGED ALT TO 2000 FT. MODE CTL PANEL WAS RESET TO 2000 FT AND ACFT CONTINUED TO DSND AND TRACK THE LOC BUT STILL HAD NOT YET INTERCEPTED THE GS. CAPT DISENGAGED THE AUTOPLT AND BEGAN TO HAND FLY THE APCH. CURRENT CONDITIONS AT LAX WERE RPTED AS 900 FT OVCST WITH NO RPTED TOPS AND A VISIBILITY OF 2 MI. THE CAPT CONTINUED TO FLY THE APCH IN VMC WITHOUT GS INTERCEPTION INSIDE THE OM. THE FO ADVISED THE CAPT TO 'GAR; THE APCH WAS NOT STABLE.' THE CAPT CONTINUED TO FLY APCH AS THE ACFT ENTERED IMC. THE FO AGAIN ADVISED THE CAPT THAT THE APCH WAS NOT STABLE. THE ACFT BROKE OUT INTO VMC AND WAS ESTABLISHED INTO A HIGH SINK RATE. THE ACFT'S AURAL WARNING SOUNDED 'SINK RATE; SINK RATE;' THE CAPT FINALLY EXECUTED A MISSED APCH AS HE NOTICED THAT ATTEMPTING TO LAND COULD BE DANGEROUS. THE ACFT WAS VECTORED AROUND FOR ANOTHER ILS APCH FOR RWY 25L AND LANDED SAFELY.
