Synopsis

CAPT OF A WDB ABORTED TKOF DUE TO ABNORMAL ACFT PULL TO THE L DURING TKOF ROLL.

Narrative

WE BEGAN THE TKOF ROLL IN SEOUL; KOREA (SEL); AND THE CAPT COMMANDED THAT TKOF PWR BE SET. AS I WAS ADVANCING THE THROTTLES; THE CAPT PULLED THE THROTTLES TO IDLE AND DISCONTINUED THE TKOF. OUR GND SPD WAS ONLY 30-50 KTS. THE CAPT SAID THE ACFT HAD PULLED TO THE L AND ASKED IF THE ENGS HAD SPOOLED UP EVENLY. I TOLD HIM THEY HAD. AFTER WE DISCONTINUED THE TKOF; THE ACFT TAXIED NORMALLY WITHOUT ANY PULLING TENDENCY. THE CAPT RELATED A PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN WHICH HE HAD A BRAKE STICK MOMENTARILY WITH NO FURTHER PROBS. SINCE THE ACFT WAS OPERATING NORMALLY WE ELECTED TO TKOF WITHOUT HAVING MAINT CHK OUT THE ACFT. DURING THE SUBSEQUENT TKOF THE CAPT RPTED THAT THE ACFT WAS PULLING SLIGHTLY TO THE L (LESS THAN ON THE PREVIOUS ATTEMPT); BUT CONTINUED THE TKOF. DURING LNDG AND TAXI IN AT HONG KONG THE ACFT OPERATED NORMALLY. MAINT AT HKG NOTED A LOT OF CARBON DUST ON 2 WHEELS AND CHANGED THE ASSOCIATED BRAKES; HOWEVER; THEY DID NOT KNOW IF THE WORN BRAKES WOULD HAVE CAUSED OUR PROB ON TKOF. I BELIEVE WE SHOULD HAVE RETURNED TO THE BLOCKS AT SEL AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO TKOF. SEVERAL FACTORS CAUSED US TO CHOOSE OTHERWISE: 1) THE CAPT'S PRIOR EXPERIENCE; 2) THE ACFT APPEARED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY; AND 3) ANOTHER COMPANY ACFT HAD JUST LANDED AND WE HAVE ONLY 1 PARKING SPOT AT SEL. I SHOULD HAVE RECOMMENDED TO THE CAPT THAT WE RETURN TO THE BLOCKS. I WAS HESITANT DUE TO MY INEXPERIENCE IN THE ACFT; WITH THE COMPANY; AND WITH PAC RIM OPS. IN ADDITION THE CAPT HAD BEEN LESS THAN INTERESTED IN MY OPINIONS UP TO THAT POINT; HOWEVER; I SHOULD NOT HAVE LET THAT INFLUENCE ME.
