Synopsis

MOVING HAND CART STRIKES BE58 WING DURING TAXI.

Narrative

UPON BEGINNING TAXI AT ATL; I PASSED BTWN AN FBO AND A ROW OF PARKED ACFT. ONE OF THE ACFT I TAXIED BEHIND HAD BOTH ENGS RUNNING; AND THERE WAS ANOTHER ROW OF PARKED ACFT IN FRONT OF THE FIRST ROW MENTIONED. THE FIRST ROW CONSISTED OF BE58 (BARONS); THE SECOND ROW CONSISTED OF LEAR JETS AND MU2'S. SEVERAL OF THESE ACFT WERE STARTING THEIR TAXI. A HAND CART USED BY GND COURIERS WAS TO MY R; BESIDE THE FBO. ALL THE ACFT MENTIONED ABOVE WERE TO MY L. AS I WAS TAXIING I KEPT CLR SO AS NOT TO HIT THE HAND CART WHERE IT WAS LEFT BY A CARGO COURIER. IF I HADN'T MOVED OVER ENOUGH TO MISS THE CART WITH MY ACFT; EVENTUALLY THE WINGTIP ON THAT SIDE WOULD HAVE HIT THE FBO'S BUILDING OR POSSIBLY A TUG (ACFT) PARKED BESIDE BUILDING. AS I TAXIED; I FELT THE R ENG VIBRATE QUITE ABNORMALLY; QUICKLY FOLLOWED BY L ENG. I SHUT THE ENGS OFF AND GOT OUT OF ACFT TO INSPECT PROB. I FOUND THE CART HAD BEEN HIT BY THE TURNING PROPS. THIS RAMP AREA HAS AN INCLINE; THE SIDE WHERE THE BUILDING IS; IS THE HIGH SIDE (MY R). I BELIEVE THAT THE PROP WASH AND JET WASH OF THE ACFT TO MY L WAS ENOUGH TO GET THAT CART MOVING AND GRAVITY TOOK OVER AS IT ROLLED INTO MY ACFT. THE R PROP WAS SOMEWHAT DAMAGED; AND I FOUND NO OTHER IMMEDIATE DAMAGE. I BELIEVE THE CORRECTIVE ACTION HERE IS TO BE AWARE OF UNSECURED ITEMS ON THE RAMP AREA AND EITHER SECURE THEM OR MAKE SURE THAT WORKERS IN THAT AREA ARE AWARE OF THE SIT SO THIS SORT OF THING DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
