Narrative

ON TKOF ROLL WITH ANOTHER ON FINAL; TWR APPEARED TO ADVISE THAT THE RVR WAS 1400 FT; BUT THIS WAS NOT CLR. DUE TO THE SIT THE TKOF ROLL WAS CONTINUED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 316777: DEPARTING AUS THIS MORNING OUR SPECIAL ATIS RIGHT BEFORE TKOF WAS RPTING CEILING 200 FT VISIBILITY 1.5 MI FOG. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT RWY 31L FOR DEP TWR INFORMED US TO HOLD SHORT; ARRIVING TFC. THEN SHE CLRED US INTO POS AND SHORTLY AFTER THAT SHE CLRED US FOR TKOF. AS WE COMPLETED OUR CHKS; WE WERE ON OUR TKOF ROLL; THE AIR TFC CTLR STATED VFR EITHER 1400 FT OR 2400 FT; THERE WAS SOME DISCREPANCY BTWN MYSELF AND MY COPLT AS TO WHICH. BY THIS TIME WE WERE WELL INTO OUR TKOF; AND I FELT RATHER THAN ABORT TKOF AT THIS POINT WITH AN ACFT BEHIND US LNDG; AND VISIBILITY BEING LIMITED AND A SHORT RWY; THAT IT WAS SAFER TO CONTINUE THE TKOF AND DISCUSS THE DISCREPANCY LATER. TKOF WAS UNEVENTFUL. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE THAT CREWS BE GIVEN ADEQUATE TIME TO REVIEW AND UNDERSTAND VISIBILITY CHANGES PRIOR TO BEING IN TKOF ROLL AND HAVING TO MAKE DECISIONS AT THAT TIME.
