HDG TRACK POS DEV ON SID DEP PROC.

Narrative

I HAVE RECENTLY UPGRADED TO CAPT ON AN ACFT THAT I HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY FLOWN AS A FO. THIS MOVE ALSO REQUIRED THAT I 1) CHANGE MY BASE FROM ORD; WHERE I HAVE BEEN BASED FOR THE PAST 6 YRS TO DFW; AN ARPT I HAVE VERY LITTLE EXPERIENCE FLYING IN AND OUT OF; AND 2) THAT I GO ON RESERVE STATUS; WHICH HAS GREATLY REDUCED THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT I FLY EACH MONTH. I WAS CALLED IN TO DO FLT DFW-TUL-DFW. OUR ACFT WAS LATE INTO DFW AND WE WERE RUSHED TO GET THE FLT OUT. DFW USES 'STANDARD' TAXI INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE ONLY PUBLISHED IN OUR MANUALS. WE WERE DEPARTING TO THE S; AND WERE GIVEN A STANDARD TAXI TO RWY 17R. I HAD THE ARPT MAP AND STANDARD TAXI CHARTS OUT; BUT DID NOT HAVE THE TRI-GATE 2 SID CHART OUT. OUR TAXI WAS VERY SHORT; AND WE HAD JUST FINISHED THE TAXI CHKLIST WHEN WE WERE GIVEN A RWY CHANGE AND TOLD TO 'POS AND HOLD.' BECAUSE IT REQUIRES BOTH HANDS TO TURN; I ASKED THE FO TO CONFIRM THE INITIAL HDG AFTER DEP; HE TOLD ME 020 DEGS AND WE BUGGED ON THAT HDG. (120 DEGS IS THE CORRECT HDG FOR S DEPS.) AFTER TKOF I TURNED TO 020 DEGS. DEP ASKED US ABOUT OUR HDG; AND TOLD US TO TURN BACK R TO 130 DEGS. I DO NOT THINK THAT THERE WAS A TFC CONFLICT. THERE ARE SEVERAL THINGS THAT I FEEL CONTRIBUTED TO THIS ERROR. MY LIMITED EXPERIENCE AS A CAPT ON THIS ACFT; THIS REQUIRED ME TO PAY EXTRA ATTN TO THE OP OF THE ACFT. NOT BEING TOTALLY FAMILIAR WITH THE WAY DFW OPERATES AND THE STANDARD PROCS THEY USE. ALLOWING MYSELF TO BE RUSHED; IN ORDER TO GET THE FLT OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I DID NOT QUESTION THE HDG THE FO GAVE ME; AS HE IS VERY SENIOR AND HAD BEEN AT DFW FOR 6 YRS; SO I FELT HE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE SID. IN THE FUTURE; I WILL NOT ALLOW MYSELF TO BE RUSHED. I WILL INSURE THAT I HAVE ALL THE APPROPRIATE CHARTS OUT BEFORE I LEAVE THE GATE AND I WILL NOT TOTALLY TRUST THE WORD OF MY FO'S; NO MATTER HOW EXPERIENCED THEY MAY BE. I WILL ALSO SPEND EXTRA TIME REVIEWING THE PROCS OF THE ARPT I AM FLYING OUT OF TO INSURE I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THE PROCS USED.
