Narrative
THE FLT IN QUESTION STARTED AT MENOMINEE; MI; ON RWY 21 AND HEADED 212 DEGS TOWARD THE GREEN BAY VOR. THE LEAD ACFT WAS A C182 AND THE FOLLOW ACFT WAS A C172 PLTED BY THE RPTR. FROM THE GREEN BAY VOR; WE FLEW 204 DEGS TO THE OSHKOSH; WI; ARPT WHERE WE LANDED ON RWY 27. THE C172 WAS LEFT AT OSHKOSH FOR 2 WKS AND WE CAME BACK TO MENOMINEE; MI; IN THE C182. HAVING STARTED OUT FROM THE S RAMP VFR SOLO; I HAD ALL THE BUTTONS ON THE AUDIO PANEL SET FOR SPEAKER. I WAS TO BE THE FOLLOWER IN A FLT OF 2 FROM AN UNCTLED ARPT THROUGH A CLASS C ARPT RADAR SVC AREA TO A TWR CTLED CLASS D ARPT. BEFORE DEP; AT THE CTR RAMP; THE PLT OF THE LEAD ACFT GAVE ME HIS EXTRA HEADSET TO USE. I DIDN'T KNOW IT TILL WE GOT TO OUR DEST; BUT I HAD FORGOTTEN TO RESET THE AUDIO PANEL TO PHONE. ALTHOUGH HE SOUNDED STRANGE; I GAVE NO THOUGHT TO THE AUDIO PANEL. MAYBE THAT'S THE WAY A HEADSET SOUNDS. I DON'T KNOW. AFTER TKOF; THE LEAD PLT CONTACTED DEP CTL FOR A CLRNC THROUGH THEIR AIRSPACE FOR A FLT OF 2; UNDER FLT FOLLOWING (THAT WAY; WE DIDN'T NEED A FLT PLAN). AS WE GOT NEAR OUR DEST; THE LEAD ACFT CALLED THE TWR AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO LAND. I WAS ABOUT 1/2 MI BEHIND; AND BEING A FLT OF 2 UNDER FLT FOLLOWING; I ASSUMED I COULD LAND TOO; I DID. AFTER I GOT OFF THE RWY; I STOPPED AND CALLED THE TWR FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO THE S RAMP. AFTER 2 TRIES WITH NO RESPONSE (I FORGOT TO SWITCH TO GND CTL FREQ). ASSUMING WE WERE STILL UNDER FLT OF 2; UNDER FLT FOLLOWING; I THEN PROCEEDED TO TAXI TO THE S RAMP AND PARK NEXT TO THE LEAD ACFT. THAT'S WHEN EVERYTHING CAME UNGLUED. THE PLT OF THE LEAD ACFT USED MY RADIO AND NUMBERS TO CALL GND CTL TO ASK THEM TO MAKE A PHONE CALL TO SOMEONE WHO WAS TO MEET US THERE. GND CTL SAID THE TWR HAD NO RECORD OF THAT ACFT RECEIVING A CLRNC TO LAND; NOR A CLRNC TO TAXI TO THE S RAMP. I WAS VERY EMBARRASSED. I HAVE SINCE BOUGHT MY OWN HEADSET AND PLAN ON GETTING LOTS OF INSTRUCTIONS ON ITS USE. I WILL ALSO REVIEW THE FARS; TOO!
