Synopsis

VIBRATION INCREASED AND FLT ATTENDANT RPTED LOUD VIBRATION IN THE CABIN. AFTER PULLING BACK TO IDLE; VIBRATION ICREASED; TGT INCREASED INTO YELLOW ARC AND ENG WAS SHUT DOWN. POSTFLT INSPECTION REVEALED DISINTEGRATED TURBINE SECTION.

Narrative

WE WERE CRUISING OVER CRW AT FL250 ENRTE FROM CLE TO CLT. THE FIRST INDICATION OF ANY TROUBLE WAS A SUDDEN ONSET OF VIBRATION. THE FO AND I WERE SEARCHING FOR THE CAUSE; WHEN THE LEAD FLT ATTENDANT CAME INTO THE COCKPIT AND ANNOUNCED THAT THE NOISE AND VIBRATION WERE VERY LOUD IN THE CABIN. WE FOUND THE VIBRATION TO BE VERY EVIDENT THROUGH THE R HORSEPWR LEVER AND NOTICED THAT THE R TURBINE GAS TEMP (TGT) WAS ABNORMALLY HIGH; NEAR THE TOP OF THE GREEN ARC. WE PULLED THE THROTTLE BACK TO IDLE; THE VIBRATION INCREASED; THE TGT DECREASED THEN INCREASED INTO THE YELLOW ARC. WE SHUT THE ENG DOWN; DECLARED AN EMER AND LANDED AT CRW. THE LNDG WT WAS APPROX 67500 LBS. THE LNDG AND TAXI IN WERE UNEVENTFUL; AND THE PAX DEPLANED THROUGH THE MAIN CABIN DOOR. TOTAL SINGLE ENG TIME WAS APPROX 15 MINS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR CAPT VERIFIED ACFT TYPE AS FA28. RPTR HAS HAD NO FURTHER FEEDBACK FROM COMPANY OTHER THAN IT WAS FOUND THAT THE TURBINE SECTION HAD DISINTEGRATED.
