SUPER 80 HAS LLWS ALERT ON APCH. ON MISSED APCH ENCOUNTERS WINDSHEAR RESULTING IN INABILITY TO MAINTAIN ALT. DIVERTS TO AUS; ENCOUNTERS SEVERE HEADWINDS; DECLARES EMER DUE TO LOW FUEL STATE.

Narrative

WE WERE CLRED TO DFW VIA THE BLUE RIDGE ARR. WE HELD AT CONNY INTXN FOR APPROX 20 MINS AND WERE CLRED TO RESUME THE ARR TO DFW. WHILE BEING VECTORED TO THE APCH FOR RWY 17L WE NOTED A LINE OF SEVERE TSTMS APCHING FROM THE NW. ON VISUAL APCH TO RWY 17L; INSIDE THE MARKER; ON TWR FREQ WE RECEIVED A LLWS ALERT FROM DFW TWR. WINDS RAPIDLY INCREASED AND WERE IN EXCESS OF LIMITS FOR THE S80 ACFT. WE INITIATED A GAR. TWR INSTRUCTED US TO CLB TO 3000 FT ON A 150 DEG HDG. WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT DEP ON 118.55. PASSING 1000 FT AGL WE ENCOUNTERED A SEVERE WINDSHEAR WITH AN INCREASE OF 50 KTS IN AIRSPD AND AN UNSOLICITED CLB OF 3000 FPM. WE WERE UNABLE TO STOP THE CLB AT 3000 FT. THE COPLT INFORMED ATC WE WERE UNABLE TO LEVEL AT 3000 FT DUE TO WINDSHEAR AND WE WERE GIVEN A CLB CLRNC TO 6000 FT. THIS WAS A CLASSIC CASE OF WINDSHEAR IN FRONT OF AN APCHING STORM. WE ONLY ENCOUNTERED THE UPDRAFT AND INCREASE IN AIRSPD. THANKS TO SIMULATOR TRAINING WE WERE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE AND ESCAPE THE DANGER. WE WERE INFORMED DFW HAD CLOSED. DAL WAS NOT CONSIDERED A VIABLE ALTERNATE DUE TO THE RAPID MOVEMENT OF THE STORMS. WE IMMEDIATELY REQUESTED VECTORS TO AUS. SEVERAL OTHER ACFT WERE DIVERTING TO AUS AT THE SAME TIME. WE SENT AN ACARS MESSAGE THAT WE WERE DIVERTING TO AUS AND ENTERED AUS AS THE DEST IN THE ACARS. WE EXPERIENCED HIGHER THAN NORMAL FUEL BURN ENRTE TO AUS DUE TO VECTORS COMBINED WITH A LOWER CRUISE ALT FOR TFC; WX; AND A HEADWIND IN EXCESS OF 70 KTS. APPROX 65 MI FROM AUS WITH 4000 LBS OF FUEL REMAINING; WE DECLARED MINIMUM FUEL. WE WERE GIVEN VECTORS DIRECT TO THE OM FOR RWY 13R. ON FINAL FOR RWY 13R; THE WINDS CHANGED AND EXCEEDED OUR LIMITS. WE REQUESTED AND RECEIVED A CIRCLE-TO-LAND RWY 31L. TOUCHDOWN FUEL WAS 2400 LBS.
