Narrative
LEAD FLT ATTENDANT CALLED DURING FLAP RETRACTION TO RPT SMOKE BILLOWING OUT OF THE AFT GALLEY. I LEVELED THE PLANE AT 7000 FT AND DECLARED AN EMER. DIRECTED THE FO TO RUN THE CABIN SMOKE RED BORDERED CHKLIST. TURNED L AFTER TALKING TO ATC; ELECTED TO LAND RWY 27R. ABOUT 800 FT AGL; THE LEAD FLT ATTENDANT RETURNED TO THE COCKPIT TO INDICATE 'THE SMOKE WAS UNDER CTL AND WE DID NOT NEED TO LAND.' WE ELECTED TO LAND. DURING ROLLOUT THE LEAD FLT ATTENDANT RETURNED TO THE COCKPIT TO SAY THE CABIN WAS FILLING WITH SMOKE. THE COPLT AND I COULD SEE AND SMELL SMOKE. LEAD FLT ATTENDANT WAS TOLD TO STANDBY FOR EVAC. I PULLED OFF OF THE RWY AT THE HIGH SPD AND STOPPED ON THE RAMP. I CALLED FOR THE EVAC CHKLIST AND EVACED THE ACFT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ON ACN 328796 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: FO COMPLIMENTS CAPT ON PREFLT BRIEFING TECHNIQUE. BEFORE ALL OF THIS HAPPENED THE CAPT HAD ASSURED THE FLT ATTENDANTS THAT THE STERILE COCKPIT RULE SPECIFICALLY APPLIED TO SOCIALIZING AND HE HAD REVIEWED EMER PROCS. HE BELIEVES THIS INFLUENCED THE FLOW OF COM BTWN THE CABIN AND COCKPIT DURING THE EMER AND THE SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME OF THIS EVENT. THE LEAD FLT ATTENDANT DID NOT HESITATE TO INFORM THE COCKPIT IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHE WAS TOLD OF THE SMOKE BY THE AFT FLT ATTENDANT. AFT FLT ATTENDANT PULLED THE GALLEY CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND ALL FLT ATTENDANTS DONNED PERSONAL BREATHING EQUIP. THE CAPT CONTINUED FLYING THE ACFT AND THE FO HANDLED THE CHKLISTS AND THE COM WITH ATC AND CABIN CREW MEMBERS. TOTAL TIME ELAPSED FROM B757'S TKOF TO LNDG WAS 6.5 MINS AND THE ACFT WAS EVACED IN LESS THAN 2 MINS. MAINT FOUND A SMALL CARD IN THE AFT GALLEY CONVECTION OVEN THAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE SOURCE. FO BELIEVES THAT CAUSE IS UNDETERMINED AS THERE WAS MORE SMOKE IN THE CABIN THAN A CARD COULD PRODUCE; BUT HE ALSO STATES THAT HE HAS NOT SINCE HEARD OF ANY OTHER RELATED PROBS WITH THIS ACFT.
