FO WAS UNABLE TO SELECT AUTO APCH MODE FOR A MONITORED ILS APCH. WHILE TRYING TO GET THE AUTOPLT TO ACCEPT; THE AUTOPLT OVERSHOT FINAL AND STARTED A CLB. FLC REQUESTED ANOTHER APCH AND THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE CAPT'S SIDE WAS STILL SET TO A VOR FREQ.

Narrative

WE WERE SHOOTING THE ILS RWY 9 INTO FNT; MI; IN ACTUAL IMC. ALL WAS NORMAL EXCEPT I (AS CAPT) OMITTED JOINING THE FO (PF) ON THE LOC FREQ WHEN WE WERE CLRED FOR THE ILS. CONSEQUENTLY THE AUTOPLT (WE WERE PERFORMING A MONITORED APCH) WAS NOT TRACKING NORMALLY. I COMMANDED FO TO DISENGAGE; THEN RE-ENGAGE AUTOPLT. WE HAD NOT DISCOVERED MY FREQ SELECTION ERROR SO I REQUESTED A TURN OFF THE LOC TO GO BACK AND SHOOT THE ILS RWY 9 AGAIN. WE WERE OUTSIDE THE MARKER AT 3000 FT AND WHEN ACCEPTING A HDG OF 180 DEGS THE AUTOPLT PITCHED UP BRIEFLY. I BELIEVE WE MIGHT HAVE GAINED 300-400 FT BEFORE RETURNING TO 3000 FT. WE PROCEEDED FURTHER OUTBOUND AND SHOT AN UNEVENTFUL MONITORED ILS RWY 9 AT FNT; MI. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 328749: ACFT OVERSHOT FINAL HDG BY 30 DEGS. WHILE TRYING TO GET AUTOPLT TO ACCEPT AUTO APCH MODE; AUTOPLT STARTED A CLB. SO CALLED AIRSPD WHEN HE SAW 15 KTS SLOW. I ADDED PWR THEN NOTED ACFT IN CLB. FO DISTRACTED TRYING TO COUPLE APCH MODE AND ATTEMPT TO CORRECT ALTDEV WITH AUTOPLT TOO LONG. CONCERNED WITH LOW WX MINIMUMS; ALL NIGHT FLYING; TIRED; ALL 3 CREW MEMBERS NEW IN SEAT POS.
