Synopsis

A COMMUTER ACFT'S WINGTIP STRUCK ANOTHER PARKED ACFT'S WINGTIP DURING PARKING. THE CAPT RPTS THAT THE MARSHALLER DID NOT GIVE ANY CORRECTION TO THE FLC PRIOR TO THE WINGTIP COLLISION.

Narrative

THE FO WAS TAXIING OUR ACFT ONTO THE RAMP AFTER LNDG. THE RAMPER WAS DIRECTING US IN BTWN 2 PARKED ACFT. WE STARTED DRIFTING TOWARDS THE WINGTIP OF THE PLANE ON OUR L; BUT THE MARSHALLER MADE NO SIGNAL TO CORRECT THIS. AS OUR L WINGTIP NEARED THE WINGTIP OF THE OTHER PLANE; I TOLD THE FO TO STOP THE PLANE. HE DID. I WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH CLRNC THE WINGTIP HAD. I LOOKED AT THE RAMPER WHO HAD A BETTER ANGLE THAN I DID FROM THE COCKPIT. HE MOTIONED US FORWARD AGAIN. I TOLD THE FO TO GO SLOW; AND BE PREPARED TO STOP. AS WE MOVED FORWARD AGAIN; THE WINGTIPS BECAME VERY CLOSE AND I TOLD THE FO TO STOP AGAIN. HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE PLANE BEFORE THE WINGTIPS COLLIDED. ONE AIRPLANE RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE. I FEEL MY BLIND TRUST IN THE MARSHALLER; AND MY FAILURE TO INSIST ON A WINGWALKER CONTRIBUTED TO THIS MISHAP. ALSO I FEEL THE RAMPER SHOULD HAVE HAD MORE TRAINING IN DIRECTING PLANES IN CLOSE PROX TO EACH OTHER. ALSO; ALLOWING A RELATIVELY NEW FO (6 MONTHS) TO TAXI IN SUCH CLOSE QUARTERS MAY HAVE ADDED TO THE SIT.
