VIBRATION CEASED; DECLARED EMER WITH CTR. REQUEST CLRNC DIRECT LAS. REQUESTED DSCNT. ADVISED DISPATCH AND COMPANY. RETURNED TO LAS. HAD EMER EQUIP STANDBY. LANDED AT 195000 LBS; LANDED UNEVENTFUL. ZLA VERY HELPFUL -- EXCELLENT JOB. ADVISED APCH AND TWR AT LAS WE WERE RETURNING WITH ENG SHUTDOWN. DID NOT ATTEMPT TO RESTART ENG BECAUSE OF VIBRATION. ENG PARAMETERS HAD LOOKED GOOD BUT FELT NOT WISE TO DO SO WITH VIBRATION WE HAD. VIBRATION CEASED WHEN ENG WAS SECURED. LANDED AT LAS ON RWY 25R. REQUESTED WITH TWR TO USE RWY 25R BECAUSE OF ACFT WT FOR LNDG. WHILE ON FINAL TO LAS CLRED FOR VISUAL APCH. WHEN APPROX 6 MI OUT TWR ADVISED ACFT ON NUMBERS DEPARTING. EMER EQUIP STANDING BY WHEN APPROX 4 MI OUT. TWR CLRED ANOTHER ACFT; ACR X; INTO POS. DID NOT FEEL THAT WAS GOOD JUDGEMENT WITH FACT WE HAD ONE ENG SHUT DOWN AND EMER. ACR X DEPARTED OK; BUT IF HE HAD ABORTED OR HAD SOME PROB AT LAST MIN WOULD HAVE HAD TO CLR RWY. MAY NOT HAVE CLRED IN TIME AND WOULD HAVE CAUSED US TO DO SINGLE-ENG GAR AT HVY WT AND HIGH ELEVATION ARPT. THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. DID NOT SEE NECESSITY TO GET THAT LAST ACFT AIRBORNE.
