WITH INTENSE TFC ARRIVING FOR AN AIR SHOW; LNDGS WERE BEING MADE WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC. THE RPTR LANDED WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC WITH AN ACFT TURNING OFF ABOUT 4000 FT DOWN THE RWY.

Narrative

ON APR/XA/96 AT TDG; AL; AT XA20; THERE WERE MANY AIRPLANES TRYING TO LAND. I WAS ON AN IFR FLT PLAN. AT 15 MI W OF TDG I WAS TOLD TO EXPECT A LONG DELAY; SO I CANCELED IFR AND WAS TOLD TO CONTACT TDG TWR. THERE WERE SO MANY PLANES TRYING TO CALL I WAS A MI OR 2 FROM THE ARPT BEFORE I COULD GET THE TWR TO TALK TO ME. HE SAID CROSS MID FIELD AND ENTER L DOWNWIND AND WATCH SPACING. THERE MUST HAVE BEEN 20 PLANES WITHIN 5 MI OF THE FIELD TRYING TO LAND. I GOT SPACING ON THE PLANE IN FRONT OF ME WHEN A JET WENT OVER ME SO I GOT SPACING ON HIM. ON FINAL 3 SMALL PLANES TURNED IN FRONT OF ME ON FINAL. THE JET WENT AROUND. I GOT SPACING ON THE LAST PLANE. THE PORTABLE TWR WAS NOT CLRING ANYBODY TO LAND. PLANES WERE LNDG WITH NO CLRNC AND OTHER PLANES ROLLING OUT ON THE RWY. I ASKED TWR 3 TIMES; WAS I CLRED TO LAND -- NOTHING. SO I LANDED. I HAD PLENTY OF ROOM BUT THERE WAS A SMALL PLANE ROLLING OUT; READY TO TURN OFF THE RWY WHEN I TOUCHED DOWN. IF THEY HAVE A TWR THEY NEED TO CTL THE PLANES. THE TWR CTLR DID TELL 1 TWIN ENG TO GAR WHEN I WAS WAY OUT ON FINAL. I THOUGHT IF MY SPACING DID NOT LOOK GOOD HE WOULD HAVE TOLD ME TO GAR AND HE DID NOT; BUT IT BOTHERED ME THAT HE WOULD NOT CLR ME TO LAND; BUT HE HAD NOT CLRED ANYBODY TO LAND THAT I HEARD. BUT THERE WAS A SMALL PLANE TURNING OFF THE RWY ABOUT 4000 FT DOWN THE RWY WHEN I TOUCHED DOWN.
