THE MD11 L MAIN GEAR TIRE SUNK INTO THE MACADAM WHILE TURNING INTO THE GATE UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE MARSHALLER.

Narrative

AFTER LNDG THE ACFT; WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO THE GATE. TURN INTO THE GATE APPEARED NORMAL AND MARSHALLER GAVE NO OFF CTRLINE CORRECTIONS. UPON ARR MARSHALLER SAID THE L MAIN TIRES HAD SUNK INTO THE RAMP WHILE APCHING THE GATE. APPEARS THIS RAMP IS EITHER TOO NARROW OR TOO SOFT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE. ONLY AFTER PARKING AT THE GATE DID THE MARSHALLER INFORM THE PLT THAT THE MAIN GEAR WHEEL HAD SUNK INTO THE MACADAM IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING IN TO THE GATE. THE CAPT WAS FOLLOWING THE GUIDANCE OF THE MARSHALLER. THE FO DOES NOT HAVE A TILLER ON HIS SIDE. THE NIGHT WAS RAINY AND THE CAPT; AS IS STANDARD PROC; TURNED OUT THE NOSEWHEEL TAXI LIGHT SO IT WOULD NOT BLIND THE MARSHALLER. THEREFORE; THE PLT DOES NOT KNOW WHERE THE GUIDE-IN STRIPE WAS RELATIVE TO HIS TURN IN TO THE GATE. THE RPTR STATED HE WAS ABOUT 50 HRS PER MONTH FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS; AND 600 HRS PER YR FOR THE LAST 3 YRS IN THE MD11. HE STATED THE COMPANY HAS NOT CONTACTED HIM ABOUT ANY DAMAGE TO THEIR RAMP; BUT THE GATE IS A TOW IN GATE NOW.
