Narrative
FLT FROM LGA-IAD FOLLOWING GND HOLD: REROUTE ISSUED APPROX 3 MINS PRIOR TO TKOF CLRNC. FO ENTERED RAW DATA ON VOR DISPLAY FOR INITIAL FIX (WAVEY INTXN) FROM LOW ALT CHART. CAPT BEGAN ENTRY INTO FMGC FOR NEW RTE. CAPT TOOK FO'S CHART TO COMPLETE ENTRIES. CHKLISTS RUN QUICKLY PRIOR TO IMMINENT TKOF CLRNC. I FELT COMFORTABLE WITH MY RAW DATA AVAILABLE TO NAV TO FIRST FIX. TIME WOULD BE AVAILABLE AFTER TKOF FOR ME TO VERIFY CAPT'S FMS ENTRIES. SOON AFTER DEP CLRNC WAS ISSUED DIRECT TO WAVEY. I HAD NOT VERIFIED THE FMS ENTRIES AND TURNED TO THE MAP DISPLAY FLT DIRECTOR GUIDED FIX WHEN CAPT EXECUTED THE FMS DIRECT. I WAS BUSY CLBING IN ROUGH CUMULUS BTWN 6000- 12000 FT AND DID NOT NOTE THAT OUR WESTERLY HDG DID NOT CONCUR WITH THE RAW DATA FIX TO OUR S. AFTER APPROX 5 MI ON THE W HDG ATC ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING. HE TURNED US S. I THEN NOTED THE FIX WE WERE GOING TO WAS WAVIE NEAR ORD; NOT WAVEY S OF JFK. MY MISTAKE FOR NOT CATCHING THE W HDG ERROR. CAPT SHOULD NOT HAVE ACCEPTED THE HURRIED DEP AND SHOULD HAVE COMMUNICATED WITH FO FOR VERIFICATION PRIOR TO EXECUTION OF ROUTING. PERHAPS ATC SOFTWARE COULD FLAG CTLRS TO SIMILARLY NAMED AND SPELLED NAV FIXES FOR PLT AWARENESS.
