Narrative
THIS FLT WAS VECTORED E ACROSS SAN FRANCISCO BAY FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 28R IN CAVU CONDITIONS. ON A S HDG FOR A CROSS LEG AT 210 KTS ASSIGNED; APCH ASKED IF WE SAW THE RWY AND WE SAID 'YES.' HE ALSO POINTED OUT 2 ACFT COMING FROM OUR 10 O'CLOCK (I THINK) ALSO VECTORED FOR APCHS TO SFO. WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 28R TOO LATE ON THAT HEADING. IN THE R TURN (FO WAS FLYING) I SAW 1 OF THE ACFT APCHING FROM THE L BUT THOUGHT THAT OUR TURN WOULD CLR HIM. AFTER LOSING SIGHT OF HIM IN THE TURN; WHICH CROSSED THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OF RWY 28L; A TCASII RA WAS ACTIVATED. APCH CTL MADE SEVERAL CALLS SUCH AS 'SLOW TO 170 KTS' AND 1 THAT WE MISSED AS I WAS INSTRUCTING THE FO TO LINE UP WITH THE R SIDE RWY AND TO OBEY THE TCASII. IT MIGHT NOT BE CORRECT TO SAY THAT WE TOOK EVASIVE ACTION BECAUSE THE 30 DEG BANKED TURN TO THE R WAS STARTED; INTENDED AND NEEDED FOR THE APCH. THE OTHER PLANE WAS SEEN ON TCASII AND AT 1 POINT VISUALLY WE LOST SIGHT OF HIM IN THE R TURN. THIS WAS AFTER A LONG; DSNDING DOWNWIND VECTOR. THERE IS SUFFICIENT TIME AND SPACE FOR MANEUVERING AND VECTORING TO AVOID THIS KIND OF JUXTAPOSITION.
