WHILE ATTEMPTING TO KEEP THE SPD UP TO FOLLOW A JET; A C206 AMPHIBIAN PLT FAILED TO EXTEND THE LNDG GEAR. THE FRONT SEAT PAX WHO WAS ALSO A PLT; WAS DISTR LOOKING FOR TFC AND FAILED TO NOTICE. THE ACFT WAS LANDED GEAR UP; DAMAGING THE KEEL WEAR STRIPS.
Narrative
I ENTERED L DOWNWIND FOR A LNDG ON RWY 16 AS INSTRUCTED BY THE TWR. THE TWR ALSO POINTED OUT JET TFC TO ME; AND INSTRUCTED ME TO FOLLOW IT; TO RWY 16. I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN THE ACFT AS I ENTERED THE DOWNWIND LEG; BUT I CHOSE NOT TO PUT THE GEAR DOWN; AS THIS WOULD HAVE SLOWED ME DOWN TOO MUCH AND NOT HAVE PROVIDED PROPER SPACING WITH THE JET. I CONTINUED ON TO BASE AND THEN FINAL; BUT I FORGOT THAT I DID NOT PUT THE GEAR DOWN WHILE I WAS ON THE DOWNWIND LEG. I LANDED WITH THE GEAR UP. ONLY MINOR DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE WEAR STRIPS ON THE KEELS AND NO ONE WAS HURT. I HAVE LEARNED THAT A DOUBLECHK ON GEAR POS IS NECESSARY WHILE ON FINAL APCH; AND A CLR VIEW OF THE SURFACE I AM LNDG ON. BLUE FOR WATER AND BROWN FOR LAND. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 337832: AS A FRONT SEAT PAX AND RATED IN THE ACFT; I WAS WATCHING FOR TFC AND POINTING IT OUT TO THE PIC. AT NO TIME DID I CHK THAT THE PIC PUT THE GEAR DOWN OR THAT THEY WERE DOWN. I BELIEVE THE REASON I DID NOT CHK THE GEAR POS WAS COMPLACENCY; DUE TO THE EASY FLYING CONDITIONS AND THE FACT I WAS NOT FLYING THE ACFT.
