SMA PLT ISSUED TA; BUT IS IN AND OUT OF CLOUDS. WHEN LEVEL; PAX SIGHTS ACFT PASSING OVERHEAD ABOUT 300 FT ABOVE.

Narrative

I WAS CLRED TO 7000 FT UNDER RADAR CONTACT FROM BCB TO ROA ON AN IFR PLAN TO CHO. WHILE STILL CLBING THROUGH ABOUT 6000 FT I RECEIVED A TA OF A JET DSNDING OUT OF 10000 FT AT 10 O'CLOCK. MY PAX AND I BOTH BEGAN LOOKING BUT SAW NOTHING. WE WERE PASSING THROUGH BROKEN CLOUD LEVELS. AS WE APCHED ROA VOR WE WERE LEVEL AT 7000 (THE ASSIGNED ALT). WE WERE ABOVE A BROKEN LAYER AND UNDER WHAT LOOKED LIKE AN OVCST. VISIBILITY APPEARED TO BE LESS THAN VFR. NO OTHER ADVISORIES WERE GIVEN ON THE TFC. BECAUSE OF MY POS IN THE L SEAT OF THE HIGH WING ACFT THE 10 O'CLOCK HIGH POS FOR APCHING ACFT IS NOT READILY OBSERVABLE. AT ROA VOR MY PAX (A NON PLT) SAW WHAT HE DESCRIBED AS A LARGE ACFT PASS OVER US AT AN ESTIMATED 200-500 FT ABOVE. IN RETROSPECT; I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE AGGRESSIVE IN ASKING ABOUT THE TFC. IN FACT; I WISH I HAD SUGGESTED TO THE CTLR THAT I REMAIN LOW OR THAT THE JET STAY HIGH UNTIL PASSING ROA. PERHAPS THIS WAS DONE ON ANOTHER FREQ AND PERHAPS THE JET HAD SEEN US BUT NO ONE TOLD US THIS. MORE COM WOULD HAVE BEEN APPROPRIATE AND APPRECIATED.
