THE TRAINEE AND INSTRUCTOR FAILED TO STOP AFTER A PRACTICE LNDG AND TOOK OFF INTO THE FLT PATH OF A DC9 APCHING TO LAND ON AN INTERSECTING RWY.
Narrative
THE TRAINING FLT BEING CONDUCTED REQUIRED THE INTRODUCTION OF SHORT AND SOFT FIELD TKOF AND LNDGS. UPON ENTRY INTO GRAND FORKS AREA THE CTLR CLRED US FOR STOP AND GO ON RWY 26 AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 35L. THE STUDENT WAS FLYING AND MAKING ALL RADIO CALLS. HE ACKNOWLEDGED THE CALL. WE ENTERED A R BASE FOR RWY 26 AND AT THAT TIME I TOOK CTL AND WAS VERBALLY EXPLAINING AND DEMONSTRATING THE SHORT FIELD LNDG. THE PATTERN WAS BUSY; ALL 3 RWYS WERE BEING USED. A LOT OF RADIO CALLS WERE BEING MADE BY OTHER ACFT AND ATC. I BELIEVE WE RECEIVED ANOTHER CLRNC FOR STOP AND GO ON RWY 26. FINAL APCH TO LNDG WAS FLOWN BY MYSELF WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY EXPLAINING THE PROC. THE ACFT WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP AND THEN PWRED UP FOR SHORT FIELD TKOF; CONTINUOUS DISCUSSION WAS PERFORMED THROUGH THE GND ROLL AND TKOF. DURING GND ROLL I HEARD THE CTLR STRESSED VOICE BUT WAS UNSURE OF WHO THE CALL WAS FOR. A QUICK SCAN OF THE TFC AREA BROUGHT MY ATTN TO A DC9 ON SHORT FINAL TO RWY 35L. AT THIS TIME WE HAD NOT CROSSED RWY 35L AND WERE APPROX 75 FT AGL. MY DECISION WAS TO CONTINUE THE CLBOUT; A TKOF ABORT WOULD HAVE PUT US IN THE PATH OF THE DC9. AFTER FLYING THROUGH THE RWY'S PATH WE TURNED A R XWIND AS INSTRUCTED BY THE TWR. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE DID NOT INTENTIONALLY MAKE ANOTHER TKOF IN FRONT OF THE ONCOMING TFC ON THE INTERSECTING RWY SINCE HE DID NOT HEAR THE TWR INSTRUCT THEM TO HOLD THEIR POS AFTER LNDG. HOWEVER; HIS STUDENT DID HEAR THE TWR ADVISE TO HOLD; BUT DID NOT SAY ANYTHING TO THE INSTRUCTOR SINCE HE WAS LISTENING TO HIS INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING THE PROC FOR THE SHORT FIELD TKOF AND APPLYING PWR FOR THAT PURPOSE. LIKEWISE; RPTR WAS CONCENTRATING ON THE TKOF. HE WISHED THAT THE STUDENT WOULD HAVE BROUGHT THE TWR INSTRUCTIONS TO HIS ATTN.
