FLC OF A CHARTER AIRLINE FAILED TO GET THE REQUIRED 16 HRS OF REST AFTER FLYING MORE THAN 8 HRS THE PREVIOUS DAY DUE TO WX DELAYS.
Narrative
ON JUL/THU/96 MY CREW FLEW 8 HRS 21 MINS ON A TOTAL OF 5 FLT LEGS. WE WERE SCHEDULED FOR 7 HRS 30 MINS; BUT DUE TO WX DEVS AND ATC PROCS; WENT BEYOND DOMESTIC FLT TIME REGS; THEN FLEW THE FOLLOWING DAY 3 HRS 13 MINS WITHOUT THE REQUIRED 16 HRS OF REST AS STATED IN THE FARS. THIS HAPPENED DUE TO OUR TYPE OF FLYING. SINCE WE ARE A CHARTER AIRLINE; WE FLY BOTH INTL AND DOMESTIC RTES. 2 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS SEQUENCE OF FLTS WE FLEW 12 HRS 2 MINS ON INTL SEGMENTS. FOLLOWING A DAY OF REST; THE ABOVE MENTIONED SEQUENCES OCCURRED. NOTWITHSTANDING THE FACT I SHOULD HAVE REALIZED WE FLEW OVER 8 HRS AND SHOULD HAVE DELAYED THE FOLLOWING DAY'S FLTS; THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS MADE FOR AN EASIER TRIP THAN THE INTL SERIES OF FLTS. WE WERE ALL ALERT; RESTED; AND NOTHING AFFECTED OUR JUDGEMENT OR PERFORMANCE. WE WERE MADE AWARE OF OUR FAR VIOLATION BY OUR CREW SCHEDULING DEPT THE FOLLOWING DAY. I HAVE ALSO BEEN COUNSELED BY MY CHIEF PLT TO BE MORE VIGILANT CONCERNING FLT TIME DUTY TIMES ON DOMESTIC SEGMENTS. I BELIEVE I MADE AN HONEST MISTAKE; AND WILL ENDEAVOR NOT TO LET IT HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE.
