Narrative
WE HAD JUST MADE OUR 71N 040W POS RPT TO ICELAND RADIO AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO CLB FROM FL310 TO FL330. FL330 WAS SET AND THE PWR CAME UP TO MCT. THE ACFT JUST STARTED TO CLB WHEN WE FELT SOMETHING LIKE A REAL SUDDEN WAKE TURB FOLLOWED BY VIBRATION. SECONDS LATER MORE HVY VIBRATION AND A SUDDEN JOLT. WE THOUGHT THIS WAS A COMPRESSOR STALL. AT FIRST ENG INDICATORS LOOKED NORMAL THEN #2 ENG VIBRATOR MONITOR WENT AMBER AND SHOWED 5.0. I STOPPED THE CLB AND PULLED THE #2 ENG PWR LEVER TO IDLE. THEN TRIED TO ADVANCE #2 THROTTLE AND VIBRATION STARTED IMMEDIATELY AGAIN. WE THEN SHUT DOWN #2 ENG WITH USING INFLT SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. THEN WE DECLARED AN EMER WITH ICELAND RADIO; AND ASKED FOR FL280; WHICH WAS GIVEN. AT THAT TIME THE OTHER CREW MEMBERS WENT TO THE DRIFT DOWN CHARTS. AIRSPD WAS DETERIORATING SLOWLY AT FL280. AT THIS TIME WE STARTED OUR OFF COURSE TURN AND ASKED FOR FL260; WHICH WAS GIVEN BY ICELAND CTL. WE ASKED FOR CLRNC TO BANGOR; ME; WHICH WAS GIVEN AND WE IMMEDIATELY HEADED DIRECT TO BANGOR. ENRTE TO BANGOR WE CHKED WX AT VARIOUS STATIONS AND DECIDED BOSTON WOULD BE MORE SUITABLE. ICELAND RADIO THEN GAVE US CLRNC TO BOSTON WHERE WE MADE A NORMAL LDNG.
