RPTR ALSO SAYS THAT HE WAS DOWN SUN AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE HIS ACFT. HIGH WING INTRUDER AND LOW WING RPTR; RESULTING IN A SEE AND AVOID PROB.

Narrative

WAS CONDUCTING INST TRAINING FOR INST STUDENT OF MAJOR FOREIGN AIRLINE. PROCEEDING INBOUND ON 055 DEG RADIAL (235 DEG MAGNETIC COURSE) TO STANDFIELD VOR (TFD). HAD JUST COMPLETED LEVEL OFF APPROX 50 FT ABOVE PROPER CRUISE ALT OF 6500 FT MSL (VFR ALT FOR DIRECTION OF FLT). OBSERVED A LARGE HIGH WING ACFT FLY UNDER MY L WINGTIP HEADING IN A NW OR N DIRECTION. ACFT PASSED 50-100 FT UNDER MY ACFT FROM L TO R; EMERGING FROM UNDER MY ACFT BTWN THE R WINGTIP AND HORIZ STABILIZER. UPON EMERGING FROM UNDER MY ACFT I COULD PLAINLY SEE THAT IT WAS A CESSNA CARAVAN (T208) BELONGING TO ACR AS COMPANY MARKINGS WERE CLRLY VISIBLE. VISIBILITY AT TIME OF INCIDENT WAS 30 MI PLUS; SUN ANGLE WAS APPROX 10 DEGS ABOVE HORIZON (35-40 MINS PRIOR TO OFFICIAL SUNSET). SINCE I WAS 'DOWN SUN;' THE OTHER PLT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE MY ACFT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A CLASSIC HIGH- WING/LOW-WING CONFLICT; EXACERBATED BY THE FACT THAT THE RESPECTIVE PICS ARE ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE ACFT (AS INSTRUCTOR; I WAS OCCUPYING R SEAT).
