AN ACR DC10 GOT ITS R MAIN GEAR OFF OF THE TXWY WHILE MAKING A SHARP R TURN. NIGHT OP. TAXIING TFC.
Narrative
WE LANDED ON RWY 5R. WE TURNED OFF TXWY A8; A SHORT CONNECTING TXWY. THE ACFT WAS STOPPED WHILE WE CALLED OUR GND HANDLERS FOR A PARKING LOCATION. WHEN WE RECEIVED THE LOCATION; WE REQUESTED CLRNC TO CONTINUE TAXI. DURING THE R TURN ONTO TXWY A; I NOTICED THE R GEAR WAS DRAGGING. I ADDED PWR ON #3 ENG AND QUESTIONED WHETHER WE MAY HAVE FLAT TIRES ON THAT SIDE. SOON THE ACFT TAXIED QUITE EASILY AND I THEN THOUGHT MAYBE WE HAD GONE OFF THE TXWY. I BELIEVED AT FIRST WE WERE APPROPRIATELY ON THE TXWY. PERHAPS A COMBINATION OF A DARK RAMP DIRECTLY AHEAD OF US WHILE ON TXWY A8 AS WELL AS THE SHORT CONNECTING TXWY AND INABILITY TO SEE THE TXWY EDGE LIGHTS ON THE R SIDE FOOLED MY EYES. A CHK AIRMAN WAS IN THE FRONT JUMPSEAT AND MADE NO COMMENT THAT THE TURN LOOKED TIGHT. POST-FLT INSPECTION SHOWED MUD ON ALL R GEAR TIRES PLUS MUD IMPACTED INTO BRAKES #7 AND #8. TIRE #7 NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS DAMAGED POSSIBLY ON THE TXWY LIGHT THAT WAS DAMAGED. WITH AN EXTREMELY SHORT CONNECTING TXWY; IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE THE OUTSIDE LIGHTS OF THE TXWY. PERHAPS A SHORT LEAD IN CTRLINE TXWY LIGHT WOULD HELP. IT MAY ALSO HELP TO HAVE THE RAMP DIRECTLY TO THE FRONT OF TXWY A8 AT LEAST DIMLY LIT.
